March 14, 2008Cavaliers Fans Fight To Save DJ’s Mohawk
In case you missed it, there’s a new blog out there dedicating to convincing Damon Jones not to shave his mohawk. Save DJ’s Mohawk is the latest Cavaliers blog set up with a simple plea to a player.
This is an effort I can definitely get behind….if for no other reason, DJ has been shooting lights-out with the mohawk. DJ, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
The whole thing started with this little blurb from Windhorst’s blog this week,
“Damon Jones wore a camouflage hoodie to the game tonight and on the back the word “Handsome” was spelled out in sequins. Last year he wore around a winter coat that had “Damon Jones” on the back. Just in case “Jones” wasn’t enough. The license plate on one of his Mercedes is 4Point6, the amount of time that was left on the clock when he hit that series-winning shot against the Wizards two years ago. By the way, the get ready to say goodbye to the MoHawk, he says he’s shaving it off after the road games at Washington and New Jersey.”
This caught the attention of a fan who decided to setup the site to preserve the mohawk. The truly scary thing is….it might be working. As Windhorst wrote today in the Beacon Journal,
“Damon Jones had announced plans to shave off his Mohawk after this two-game road trip. But the style has caught on among basketball players and, apparently, fans. A group of fans started a blog aimed at getting Jones to save the ‘do, at http://savedjsmohawk.blogspot.com/. Jones has heard about the site.
”Maybe I’ll have to reconsider,” Jones said. ”If enough fans feel that way, I don’t want to disappoint them.””
Save DJ’s Mohawk, as I mentioned, is the latest blog to plead with a Cavaliers player to do something. We all loved Hey Larry Hughes, Please Stop Taking So Many Bad Shots and now we’re asking DJ to keep his mohawk. The Cavaliers have to lead the league in these kind of fan blogs, eh?

Awesome article. I hope he keeps the mohawk too. I fly a pseudo hawk from time to time…makes me feel like an athlete who can look however he wants.
ROCK, I ASKED A FEW DAYS AGO ABOUT THE STARTING LINEUP WHEN ALL ARE HEALTHY…I’M GONNA THROW THIS OUT AND SEE WHAT U THINK: WEST, JEBRON, SMITH, BEN AND Z…GIVES U 4 LEGITIMATE SCORING THREATS, AND SOME SCORING OPTIONS OFF THE BENCH…ALSO POSES SOME SERIOUS MATCHUP PROBLEMS FOR SOME TEAMS.
I think the problem with that starting lineup is that with Smith, Ben, and Z all in there at the same time the lane would be clogged, making it harder for LeBron to get to the hoop. I keep going back and forth on the 2, but I would probably start West, Gibson, LeBron, Ben, and Z.
