Rafaels Take Turns Blowing Saves

With the NBA season in the rear view mirror, we now turn to a summer full of front office decision-making. As fans, we all have our feelings on what needs to be done to improve our Cavaliers team. Rock has laid the figurative cards on the table, but this is where we turn to you – the readers of WFNY.
The premise is simple. Assume all players are restricted free agents and that they’ll likely need at least a small raise from last year’s salary. Do you re-sign? Or do you release? Of course, we’ll leave LeBron James out of this scenario. And also, a little supporting argument always helps. Do Enjoy.

With Delonte West and Daniel Gibson already discussed, we continue with the backcourt. But while West and Gibson were logging minutes – at least until Gibson’s injury – one Devin Brown was not.
Rumors are circulating that Brown had missed (or shown up late) to a team practice during the post-season, thus landing in Mike Brown’s doghouse. Whether or not the playoff-long punishment was justifiable or not can be discussed at another time. For now, the only question is: Should Devin Brown be a member of the 2008-09 Cavaliers team?
2007-08 Salary: $1,200,000
2007-08 Statistics:
78 G; 22.6 Min; 7.5 Pts; 2.2 Ast; 3.4 Reb; 0.7 Stl; 40.9 FG%; 75.4 FT%
It was much of an up-and-down season for Devin Brown. If anything, he’ll be most-remembered for his two clutch free throws against the Philadelphia 76ers after the infamous foul by Samuel Dalembert. If that play didn’t set the tone for the next few weeks of action, I’m not too sure what did. But as big as those few ticks off of the clock were, Brown never really seemed to get into a groove.
He had the potential, but coupling cold streaks with fluctuating minutes provided Brown with inconsistency. But if you look at his numbers on a per/36 basis (12 points, five rebounds, a steal), perhaps that was more our fault than his?
With the “re-sign or release” decision, it becomes tough with brown for several reasons. One, you all voted to keep Daniel Gibson, so it appears that he would be the preferable shooting guard of the future. Two, Wally Szczerbiak and Sasha Pavlovic do not seem to be going anywhere, at least any time soon. Wally’s contract will likely keep him here until mid-season, and Sasha isn’t exactly at peak value right now.
There’s a reason that Devin Brown has been on five teams in five seasons. But this was also the guy that was voted as Cleveland’s “Glue Guy” by more than one blogger. But has this opinion changed since the season has ended?
Let’s hear what you think in the comments, and don’t forget to vote in the poll. You’re all on the clock…
Re-Sign or Release: Delonte West (90 percent say re-sign)
Re-Sign or Release: Daniel Gibson (75 percent say re-sign)

For some reason I can’t vote, but I would vote release. I like Devin, and he’s a fine role player, but the Cavs need to save their money for higher end talent. Devin’s PER (which is normalized in terms of minutes played) all season long was pretty lackluster. I just think the Cavs can do better. Sorry Devin.
I really like Devin. That may be an indication of how bad our players have been, or that I’m a homer, I can’t tell.
For one mill a year I think he’d be good coming off the bench. With a stable environment and a defined roll… nevermind.
I can’t vote either.
I can’t vote either, but I would vote for resign although I don’t think he would. He wouldn’t command a large contract, I think he made not quite 2 mil this year, and he was one of few people who could create his own shot. He could defend well, and for the most part he played smart. I was pretty upset that Sasha was getting so much time when Devin could be using that time more effectively. But he will probably decide to resign someplace where he could play more
Weird… we already have nine votes. Is there an error message or anything?
I voted for West. For the last 2 it just shows the results, no poll.
Deleted all my cookies, didn’t help
New poll service – I didn’t like the last one anyways. Please vote again if, or for the first time if you were experiencing issues.
Thanks!
I voted resign. I liked him coming off the bench and he usually created a spark in the game of some sorts when he did.
Then I read Rocks comment and now agree with him.
Dammit. Im confused. DWLW I guess?
Do what Lebron Wants. lol
I got excited when my mind replaced Devin for Mike in the post title. Too bad. It’s tough to make a decision, when we didn’t actually get to see how Devin handles playoff pressure, etc. He did some good things during the season, not great. No worse than everyone not named LeBron.
Really, I could care less what happens to any of the chaff on this team. Chaff= anyone not named LeBron. I just to watch the Cavs win a championship. Is it too much to ask for a competent front office for a Cleveland sports team. The Browns seem to have finally turned the corner, but…
Hahah, DWLW is my new motto for life.
Voted resign. Although when I look closely at that word, it looks like resign, as in resign yourself to losing another year?
Re-sign…if he will, he’s cheap and could be a decent role player…but I agree DWLW!!
Surprisingly, 63 percent are saying release – but most of the comments say “re-sign.” Those out there thinking to move on without Devin, feel free to state your claim!
Here’s the reason why I voted release. It was the way he dissapeared in the playoffs. He definately couldn’t have been outplayed THAT much by Wally to loose his spot as a starter and on the rotation. Some of that might be the other Brown’s fault but still.
Release. Too many mediocre shooting guards tying up cap space as it is.
It may be too late to say this, but I would rather that Devin played for Cavaliers for a much long time.I think such a gurad as Delonte or Devin will help the team a lot.If two together,of course better.
