Can Stallworth Fill the Gap?

June 9, 2008Apparently, Mark Shapiro and Company have seen enough of Asdrubal Cabrera and his .184/.282/.247 clip.
From the Indians media relations:
CLEVELAND, OH — The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has recalled INF JOSH BARFIELD from AAA Buffalo. To make room on the Major League roster, the Indians optioned INF ASDRUBAL CABRERA to AAA Buffalo.
Obviously, this doesn’t improve our fielding as Cabrera is one of the best in the league. However, as we’ve touched on in the past, Barfield isn’t exactly terrible at second base. The hope here is that he is better at the plate. While a .255 average at the Triple-A level isn’t exactly a screaming endorsement of talent, it speaks volumes for the current state of this Indians batting order.
He will be in uniform this evening for the third game against the Tigers.

THANK YOU! It’s about time. I’m not even that excited about Barfield, I just want Cabrera to get back to AAA and figure out how to hit again.

those are Barfields number from starting with the Padres and I konw he had about 150 less at bats last year, and none went well, but it still takes about a year to adjust from one league to another from what I’ve seen in the past, so hopefully he reverts back to this. Even thoug the obp kind of sucks, but it can’t really hurt, or can it?
Not to mention those numbers came in the worst hitters park in baseball. In 2006 Petco was dead last in Runs Ratio.
