June 16, 2008NBA Draft: The Jury’s Still Out
June 16, 2008He may not be the starting quarterback (as of right now), but that doesn’t mean that the football staff at The Ohio State University isn’t going to subject their incoming freshman to a litany of tests.
The (possibly unnecessary) picture to the right is a quick shot of a process in which the team places a number of sensors on a player’s lower body to monitor their balance and flexibility – with the hope of avoiding injuries in the future.
Similar to what video game creators employ, the Buckeyes tested these methods on several other incoming freshmen in addition to the much-heralded Pryor. Reportedly, only one other school uses this technology for their football program.
A few things worth mentioning:
– Pryor has reportedly added 15 lbs. of muscle, and currently weighs about 230
– He’s starting classes today, which is why he had arrived to campus so early
– The players were not allowed to conduct interviews per NCAA policy, but quarterbacks coach Roy Hall is obviously very excited to have Pryor on board
“I’m anxious for Coach Tressel to see him to see how much bigger and stronger he got,” Hall said. “It’s just unbelievable the things he was doing to prepare himself.”
The Plain Dealer reports that Pryor has already begun familiarizing himself with the Buckeyes playbook. He has alsospent time on the field, working on throwing patterns.
You can say what you want about the other teams that this kid was apparently entertaining during one of the more drawn-out recruiting sagas in recent time. But for Pryor to turn down the spread offense of Michigan and the closer-to-home location of Penn State to come play for the Scarlet and Gray speaks volumes.
There is no telling how much, if any, we will see of this kid over the course of the upcoming season. But if there is that much buzz over a 19-year old getting reflectors adhered to his body in mid-June, one can only wait to see what happens come September.
