June 11, 2008I knew it was only a matter of time before we were graced with some bad news related to the Browns.
While wide receiver Joe Jurevicius was not expected to partake in this week’s minicamps, the Associated Press (via NFL.com) is reporting that he is now the sixth member of the Browns to contract staph infection within the last four years.
The Browns released the following:
“At some point following that procedure, he acquired an infection from which he is recovering. He has been rehabilitating here in Cleveland and is expected to take part in the team’s offseason activities.”
The Cleveland Clinic is stating that the infection did not occur until a couple of weeks after Jurevicius’ surgery took place. Regardless, this has to irk even the slightest of fans, as there is obviously something going on. The team had their facilities treated for the infection last season, and it appears that they may need it again. And again…
(Meanwhile, LeCharles Bentley missed practice today. Perhaps we spoke too soon…)
(Update: Bentley has been released by the Browns, per his request. Unreal.)

“Thanks for all the care and rehab!” _LCB
Wow. Unreal is right. This is one of the biggest surprises I have seen in a long time. I mean, I guess the signs were there in his comments yesterday, but I thought it was just venting some frustration. I certainly didn’t see this coming. I’m a little bit angry about it, and I do think it’s somewhat selfish on LeCharles’ part, but at the same time, I can’t help but wish him nothing but the best.

Wrote about this a while back. Is this a new case or the same one?
At some point, the medical staff or janitors need to be blamed for all these staph infections. It’s ludicrous that our team contracts this sickness so often. I know it’s Berea, but it’s not like we’re living in the middle ages here.
Staph infections happen through no fault of the Browns. Jurevicious has said he will be there for training camp and he will be there for the first game. Bentley was just bitter because he knew he wasn’t going to start.
