C.C. Sabathia: Traded to Brewers?

Though slated as the starting pitcher for Tuesday’s game against the Tigers, Anthony Castrovince’s MLB.com blog reports that an unconfirmed deal has been made.

According to a Major League source, the Indians and Brewers have completed a trade in which Sabathia, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, would be sent to Milwaukee for Double-A outfielder Matt LaPorta and two other prospects. But that rumor could not immediately be confirmed.

So, until this is confirmed by someone in the organization, let’s sit here and hope that “two other prospects” are Mat Gamel and Alcides Escobar.  Pipe dream, most likely.  But hey…why not?

Milwaukee beat writer Haudricort says the deal is done, but still no word on who the two prospects are outside of LaPorta.

If this is true, hopefully LaPorta can fill in left field starting next year. A stretch I know, but I’d hate to see this trade become a long-term rebuilding.

This being said, I can’t help to feel like I’ll keep pulling for CC. He’s thrown as well as he could this year and has done a great job. He just happened to be stuck in the middle of ineptitude this year.

Cliff Lee better be signed at to a 4 year extension after this season, I don’t want to see two Cy Young winners traded away two years in a row.

I just saw that Bruce Brennan is saying the same thing. I dont remember the names of the prospects though.

  • cbus

ESPN is reporting this now and it indicates that Mat Gamel and Alcides Escobar are not included in the deal but doesn’t name the other two prospects besides Laporta. I wouldn’t be surprised if Laporta was on the big league team getting at bats the 2nd half of the season to get him ready for the full season next year.

Bruce Brennan is reporting that we are getting Laporta and the two prospects are Talyor Green an Outfielder and Lorenzo Caine(sp?).

  • cbus

Taylor Green was there player of the year in thier farm system in 07 at A ball and Caine is an Outfielder on the same team.

I agree, it’s not C.C.’s fault…I want to trust Shapiro (I still can’t believe that Colon trade), but this doesn’t seem like much…

Indians can’t get any more then this no field only hit guy and a few other bums. The Indians are going down in flames. Time for a Ownership, GM and manger change.

  • JJ

I’m just glad the Indians actually got something for CC and didn’t let him go in the FA market. And hey unless something surfaces that this was a sign and deal, maybe the Tribe shell out some dough to get him back (Or I can just get used to the idea that CC will never be an Indian again).

Thank you Greg for that level-headed assessment…

  • patrick eaton

seriously greg, come in off the ledge dude..it’s not that bad…

i trust shapiro in this situation. i’m sure he had many other deals/offers with other players and he obviously felt this is the one to make this team better.

good luck to cc. i hope that all of the idiots (myself included) are right and at the end of the year he listens to any offer that we have and is our opening day starter in ’09.

How about the glass half full?

The Indians got something for CC and he is going to pull the Vince McMahon move this offseason and sign to come back to Cleveland for next season!

(Let me sleep with at least one night of crazy dreams, people.)

I just voted for the Brewers in the poll question. I’m so prescient.

Also, isn’t it time to change the subtitle on the main page? Looks like we don’t have to wait till next year for the Tribe to rebuild…

  • Tom

“We’ll increase the payroll when the time is right..” Still waiting for that day huh Dolan? C.C. is a bonafide ace and of course we’re not willing to ante up. Quit paying the Dellucci’s, Byrd’s, and Borowski’s of the world and maybe we could pay our legit players.

*Prays LaPorta is a legit stick.

Anybody watch those movies Called Major League.

Well, we have the owner from that movie only this one is not hot and sexy. It is a shame us Cleveland fans cheer so passionately for organizations that don’t really care about us.

  • http://deleted buu

i dont think this owner is trying to move the team to florida though.
