Gibson’s Contract Great For The Cavs
July 17, 2008“Ha Ha!”- Nelson, From the Simpsons
July 17, 2008What we’ve been fearing and hearing whispers of has come to pass. Browns wide receiver Joe Jurevicius is likely to start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, meaning that he is out for at least the first six weeks of the season. WTAM got the story this morning during an interview with Browns GM Phil Savage. James Walker of ESPN reports that this is indeed the third surgery that Joe has had on the injured knee. The first was to fix the injury, and the other two to clean out the staph infection.
The fear is that even after the six weeks is over, Jurevicius’ knee might still keep him out of action. Joe had said previously that this would likely be his last year, but the Browns may have to accept that Joe has played his last down as a Cleveland Brown.
Joe is of course a local guy, and one of the good ones. He came from Mentor, Ohio and is a fixture in the Northeast Ohio community. His work for the March of Dimes has led to a scholarship named after his infant son Michael who passed away. WFNY hopes that Joe is able to recover from this and take the field again. Not for the fans, but for him. Good luck Joe.

But I bet he can still celebrate a 4 yard gain on 3rd and 8 like nobodys business.
Ok, who let HHR out of the cage?
I wish him the best. According to Insiders over at the OBR, it doesn’t look good. Damn Staph! It’s our worst enemy!
I just dislike him from his days with the Giants. Just a bitter, classless Philly fan. Disregard.
@ HHR- Are you into the Philly Soul?
I tried. I enjoy Arena football much more in person than on television.
It it possible to take someone off the PUP before the season starts.
With the reduced summer rosters, is it possible he is just on the list so we can take a look at a prospect longer than we could if JJ was concretely on the active roster?
Steve- he’s not on the list yet, and I don’t think that there are a host of WR prospects that the Browns are looking at in order to pull a move like that. Besides, I really believe that the Browns are concerned this is more than just a 6 week type of problem.
Chris over at Dawgs By Nature posted this about JJ and the PUP
“Byleague rules, the only way a player can be placed on the PUP list is if it is done prior to training camp starting. That creates an extra roster spot for the Browns to bring somebody in — perhaps a fourth quarterback. If Jurevicius is ready to come back a few weeks in to training camp, or right before the start of the regular season, he is eligible to play Week 1. Only if Jurevicius is left on the PUP after training camp is over will he have to wait until after Week 6 to play.”
So while it’s likely he’ll miss the first 6 weeks minimum, when the Browns do put him on the PuP next week, it’s not a guarantee.
I went to Lake Catholic with and graduated with him in the class of “93”. It’s been great to be able to continue watching him play football through out the years. I’m not one to buy a jersey because of the constant turnover but other than Kosar (love him) my daughter and i both have JJ jersey for the Browns, and will continue to wear it 🙂 I hope all works out for him and he’s able to play a few games before saying goodbye.
He looked healthy at the Kenny Chesney Concert Drinking beers walking around like he owned the place. Coming soon to a Chevy Dealership near you. Buy an SUV get Joey J’s autograph… put it next to Boozing Bernie.
