Sabathia Carries Brewers in to Playoffs
September 29, 2008Bullet-Points: Browns Notes 9/29/2008
September 29, 2008While the game against Minnesota was not one that was on the top of the “must watch” list, perhaps the more recent play – as opposed to what we saw against USC – can start to stir up some more conversation. We’ll be heading to Wisconsin this weekend for what will be a very big game, regardless of what the Badgers did (or didn’t do) against the Wolverines of Michigan. But before we preview this upcoming contest, let’s get into what we saw this past weekend.
- Terrell Pryor continues to impress me. I mentioned before the game that while he did relatively well against Troy, that we would need to see positive steps forward to grade him favorably. Now, keep in mind that this is just my opinion, but Pryor is trusting his team more and more as these games progress. Many times, I was expecting him to make the option not much of one, and just keep it himself. Not so. And this will keep defenses on their toes, allowing for bigger plays on our end.
- This is an entirely different team when Chris Wells is in the backfield. His hurdling of a Minnesota defender made me jump off of the couch. Then I had a sigh of relief when he was able to maintain his footing. It wouldn’t have made the difference against USC, but having Wells healthy can and will make a difference against the Badgers, Nittany Lions and Fighting Illini.
- And by no means do I think Wells is 100 percent…yet. The fumble was not good. He didn’t score. But at the same time, he did have 100 yards, and got repetitions – the most important part. He only had 14 carries, just about what I anticipated.
- But while Beanie did turn the ball over, Ohio State managed to come out on top of the turnover battle, 3-1. When you have a QB that runs, you’ll likely have fewer interceptions. You’ll have fewer long pass plays, but that’s the cost of business. One I’m willing to pay, as long as we wind up with “Ws.”
- Though no longer the starter, it was good to see Todd Boeckman find the end zone. After being booed against Troy, I think he really needed that for the good old self esteem. Ironically enough, he only threw four fewer passes than Pryor. Not odd was the fact that he rushed for nearly 90 fewer yards.
- Welome back, Brian Robiske. After that one-handed nonsense last week, your eight grabs for 90 yards and two touchdowns was much-needed. It’s good to see you remembered that the fundamentals are somewhat important. You’ll need to keep things up if Rory Nicol is to miss any time – I have yet to see any updates on his status.
- And this won’t be discussed anywhere but here, but A.J. Trapasso averaged 54.5 yards per punt on Saturday. If a game is ever going to come down to field position, this kid could be a huge advantage. Yes, I just hyped up our punter – no need to re-read.
Did I miss anything? Feel free to drop your science in the comments, as I’m sure there’s more to discuss.

This is a complete waste of time. Bullet points for an OSU game? Haven’t you been watching ESPN? Penn State is already the Big 10 champs. We don’t even need to play the games anymore. They are obviously unstoppable and will roll the Big 10 (if they can beat Wisconsin)
Well, they beat Oregon state, who beat USC, who was number one.
It’s just math.
Now I get it. Lets see: PSU crushes Or St, USC crushes OSU, Or St beats USC….PSU should beat OSU by 80. I wonder if that happens?
Let’s just go ahead and cancel the PSU game, apparently there is no need to play it. To quote the (in)famous Dennis Green, “IF YOU WANT TO CROWN THEY ACES, THEN CROWN THEM!” Now the question to pose is, are they who we thought they were? And will that be why we took the field?
In all fairness, PSU has looked like a million dollars so far this season. I know everybody wants to slam the hype machine, but let’s get something straight. The Big Ten is a second class citizen amongst the BCS conferences. I am kind of happy that Penn State is receiving so much recognition for their play so far. It will only make it that much better if Ohio State can find a way to beat them.
I’m not really understanding the comments on this board. Most people will have OSU favored to win when PSU visits at the end of October, I havent heard anyone say that PSU will run through OSU without any problems.
Sounds like Buckeye fans are jealous of the national attention that PSU is getting right now, probably because it is the same type of attention that OSU was getting for the past 3 years.
Oh to the contrary my good friend above me. Penitentiary state doesn’t deserve the hype. They looked good against illinois and thats the only props they gonna get from me. I give a dam if they smoked oregon state and usc came out and got beat by oregon state. We will run over penitentiary state and the 52 felons they have on the team
And OSU deserved the hype the past two years when they got smoked in the NC game?
@Tom – yes, when you go undefeated or lose only one game, you deserve to be hyped as OSU has been in the past. I don’t have a problem with PSU being hyped, I do have a problem with no one (national media) even mentioning the OSU vs PSU game as a potential Big 10 championship game. It seems that since OSU has lost 2 national championship games and to USC that they are not the kings of the big 10 anymore. Funny, I don’t remember those games being against Big 10 teams.
Lets wait and see what PSU can do on the road against a good team before we hype them too much.
PaternoState deserves as much attention as anyone else. Georgia got smoked at home. Florida lost at home. U$C was punked. Yet, all of these teams are still in the hunt. Look at how far they dropped in the polls, compared to OSU losing to #1 USC on the road, without their starting tailback. Were is OSU in the polls? Locked at 14 and waiting to be dropped for any reason the polsters can muster. It’s all perception. The Big Ten needs as much positive press as possible at this point. The SEC coaches are obviously delusional, 3 first place votes for SEC teams over Oklahoma. Give me a break. There won’t be a single undefeated team in the SEC, but one of those will play for the NC.
I agree, PSU vs OSU should be for the big ten title, provided both get past Wisconsin.
PSU has been garbage on the road since joining the Big Ten, and OSU still holds the Big Ten title belt until its taken from them in a steel cage death match.
I can’t wait to watch the PSU/Wisc game. Should be great (hopefully), with PSU pulling out a win
According to the sweater vest, the punt is the most important play in football…..And that’s a fact!!!
not gonna lie, trapasso is one of my favorite player on this team
Trapasso loves herbal supplements… Possibly helping out with distances and calmness.
The first year hell yea we deserved the hype even tho florida smoked us. We beat number 2 texas that year and smoked every team we played then beat number 2 michigan later that year. Last year we deserved no hype. This year we got smoked and now we getting screwed. We got a new starting true freshman qb and we just got our best player back. Yet we didn’t move at all? Heck outta here b
