Cleveland Versus Pittsburgh, Weather?

Above, you’ll find the forecast for tonight’s game against the Steelers.  Given the difficulty that the Titans and Bengals are having throwing the ball today, I am not liking our chances at completing anything of a lengthy nature against the Curtain.  The focus will have to be on Jamal Lewis and Kellen Winslow, and Derek Anderson’s ability to not make mistakes.  Having Josh Cribbs back will be huge, but I can’t say that this weather helps our chances tonight.

    The weather should help us tonight, big time. Our biggest concern was the steelers ability to destroy our passing defense, that is severely mitigated by the weather. Note:

    1.) Jamal Lewis is a better power running than Willie Parker, Parker’s cutback ability will be greatly mitigated by a sloppy surface.

    2.) Our biggest positional advantage over Pittsburgh is at OL. In a power running game, I like our OL and DL against Pittsburgh’s squads.

    3.) Rothlisburgher’s ability to throw on the run is mitigated if he has to worry about his footing, DA is a pocket-passer.

    4.) Cribbs’ straightforward return style should fair better than the steelers combination (holmes/?)

    5.) Our two top receiving options are big bodies, not speed receivers, while Ward is still a threat, Holmes is severely mitigated.

    6.) With our new DL improvements, we should be able to control Pittsburgh OL at the point of attack, a greater reliance on the run game should help us considerably.

    It depends if our linebackers can step up. Our offense will struggle because of it but our biggest weakness, the defensive backfield, wont be exposed either. If the linebackers step up into the gaps we have a pretty decent chance.

    We’re in the business of outscoring, not stopping. If this game is anything like the PIT/MIA game from last year, it could get ugly. But I agree…this is the linebacker make or break game…
