Gary Sheffield is an angry gentleman. Well, let’s just say he is an angry man. After his overreactions this weekend, which led to a benches clearing brawl, Sheffield was still angry.
“He’ll get taken care of, trust me,” Sheffield said. “If you take a cheap shot at me, I’ll never forget it. I won’t forget it until the day I die.”
Lighten up Francis. Apparently, Sheffield was quite upset that during the fight Asdrubal Cabrera was punching Sheffield while Carmona had him in a head lock. I don’t want to just sound like a homer all the time, but is there anyone out there who has Sheffield’s back on this? Did you all see Magglio Ordonez and Miguel Cabrera come up to Victor Martinez during the fight to seemingly try to reason with him? How much do you want to bet they were saying something like, “Dude, calm down. Gary is crazy. We don’t even like him. He isn’t worth it. We’re still cool. OK?”
Victor Martinez had this to say the following day.
“He didn’t say nothing going down to first base. If he wants to do something, then charge right there. He just walked to first base with that attitude. Who is he? Shut your mouth and keep playing the game.”
Sheffield then followed up with this.
“Who am I? Tell him to check the stats. How many years he have? He’s going to learn respect. Somebody will teach him respect. Trust me. … He ain’t done nothing in this game. Anybody can have a couple years. Do it for 20 years, and then come talk to me.”
Well, at least there is something going on to make baseball interesting in Cleveland down the stretch.
