Braylon Edwards: “Ankle Surgery?”
November 24, 2008A Not So Discreet Secret
November 24, 2008After this weekend’s absolute drubbing of the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State fans can now turn to the BCS to see when and where they will be playing come bowl time.
If Oregon State beats #24 Oregon next week, we’re likely looking at the Capital One bowl on New Years Day. Our opponent, once again, will be a team from the SEC – which as of right now looks to be the Georgia Bulldogs. And if we do play against Georgia, let me all remind you of this.
University of Georgia president Michael Adams accused the Big Ten and Pacific-10 conferences, along with the Rose Bowl, of being “the largest impediment” to a major college football playoff system.
With that out of the way… If Oregon manages to win, and USC doesn’t drop the ball in one of their last two games, the Buckeyes could be looking at a BCS at-large bid. Perhaps the Fiesta Bowl or Orange Bowl against one of the Big 12 teams that doesn’t get to play for the national title.
So, given those two scenarios, what would you like to see most? A BCS game against one of the B12 powerhouses, or a possible SEC-revenge game that isn’t on the BCS slate?

Make no mistake – If Ohio State plays Georgia, Knowshon Moreno will probably look like Walter Payton playing in a Pop Warner game. At this point, I would just like to see Ohio State play a team that won’t embarrass them.
I don’t care where we play. We ruined our shot at a NC and the Rose Bowl. So anything else isn’t anything to get too excited about.
I actually don’t think OSU end up against the Big 12 at-large team. If OSU gets in, I think that the Buckeyes end up in the Orange Bowl not the Fiesta Bowl, where the Big 12 team would likely be. I’d want the BCS game because I don’t think they’ll draw as good of a team as Georgia. I agree with Chris that Georgia would steamroll the Bucks.
The BCS Bowls are more prestigious and look better on a resume. I would prefer a Fiesta/Orange Bowl bid rather than a Capital One Invite.
@AMC: Well, I assume if USC somehow makes the rosebowl, we would get their at-large which right now likely goes to the Fiesta.
Any chance that we get chosen over Utah? Otherwise, we then have to hope that the Big East gets overlooked for a shot in the Orange.
Of course, this could all change if some of these teams crap the bed…
I agree with that coach. The Big Ten is horrible, especially when OSU goes out there and embarasses it’s self like every year or every chance they have a big game.
OSU = Over Rated
What has Georgia done in their big games this year? Gotten punched in the mouth, twice, at home. The SEC has 2 great teams and a bunch of teams ranging from average to pretty good, and Georgia is pretty good. They beat LSU and Vanderbilt, those are their best wins. Not much more impressive, if at all, than Michigan St. and Northwestern. (Before someone rips on Michigan St, who I will agree has gotten blown out in their biggest games of the year, I will say LSU has done the same with the exception of Alabama, but the whole Nick Saben thing made that game different.) Georgia got smacked by Bama and Florida at home. OSU got smacked by USC on the road and lost a tight game to PSU at home, not to mention the fact that OSU has been playing their best football for the past month and Georgia has struggled to beat Auburn and Kentucky. Georgia isn’t all that great, they have had a lot of injuries and their offensive line is not good. Moreno is good, but Beanie is better. Georgia’s defense has given up 38 or more points 4 times this year, once to LSU and once to Kentucky, two teams with horrendous offenses.
So I think that answers the question — I would rather play Georgia and get the SEC curse off our back. I don’t know why people think Georgia is that good, they mustn’t be watching them
@ Rickey. Amen. Georgia isn’t that great. I’ve watched multiple games of theirs and they just don’t impress me at all. Especially that offense. Yuck.
agreed that Georgia isn’t that great…but LSU doesn’t have a horrible offense…they are the SEC team with the worst defense and passable offense (unlike most of the rest of the conference which has that the other way)
personally, i want to see the rubber match with UT in the Fiesta.
though an All-Ohio Orange Bowl would be fun too (vs. Cincy)
also, for the Utah comment…
Utah has gained automatic eligibility for a BCS game by being in the top 12 (I can’t remember if they are #7 or #8 this week).
So, no…there is no chance the Buckeyes get chosen over Utah.
I live in Georgia…and i would love for OSU to play Georgia in a non-BCS game. from a final ranking standpoint, it doesn’t matter anymore, and who cares about the big 12? I want some SEC Revenge…but if they lose to UGA, i’d have to dig a hole and hide in it forever…Florida, LSU and UGA 3 consecutive years? ugh….
That said, i think Georgia will lose this week against Georgia Tech…so, maybe Ohio State would play a different SEC team if Georgia ends up with 3 losses?
i would love to see Ohio State in the BCS, but i don’t see it happening. The Capital One Bowl is the way to go. It’s pretty much a lock that Georgia is in the Capital One Bowl just because their next game is out of conference, so they won’t lose or gain any ground in the SEC with a win or loss. Utah is guaranteed an at large bid with their high ranking and season over. One thing that can not happen is Florida State beat Florida and then Florida turn around and beat Alabama in the SEC Title game. OR OK State beat Oklahoma and then see Mizzou turn around and beat Texas in the Big XII title game. Teams that aren’t in the top 10 can’t sneak into the BCS bowls for Ohio State to get an at large.
but also remember…it’s the bowl’s choice…they do NOT have to pick the 3rd ranked SEC team. They have 3rd choice of SEC teams.
that said, Georgia is still the most logical choice for them.

also, your ending logic is flawed. SEC and Big XII is pretty much guaranteed 2 teams in the BCS and no conference can have more than 2 teams, so it doesn’t matter who wins the conference or even how it happens, the 2nd place team will get an at-large. those are already accounted.
what cannot happen is a surprise team taking another slot…hence, the worry about Oregon State taking the Rose Bowl spot and bumping USC to an at-large.
also, if Okie State beats OU this weekend, Tech plays the Big XII championship game because they’d be tied with UT and they beat them head-to-head.
BCS
LSU might not have a horrible offense, but their QB situation sure is dreadful. Playing UT sure would be a good game, they are a totally different team from a couple years back but of course so are we. It would be interesting
OSU should make like Mark Cuban and avoid the SEC.
I can not handle another bowl game loss to an SEC team. I don’t care if they play the Motor City Bowl vs Akron as long as it is not another SEC team.
