By now, you have likely seen the new LeBron James Nike commercial that features cameos by celebrities like Lil’ Wayne, but predominantly features the pre-game ritual of the “chalk clap.” The origin of said clap will be debated for eternity, but Nike will continue to put their chips on James as they will release yet another version of the Zoom VI. This edition will reportedly feature a silhouette of James in the signature position, similar to the picture above.
“(Nike and I) have a deep relationship,” James said Sunday when the Cavs beat the Thunder, 102-91, for their third consecutive victory.
“It is not just an endorsement deal. We feed off each other; if we think something will be hot or people can relate to, we work on that.”
The kicks will debut on Christmas day as the Cavs take on the Washington Wizards. And if you’re in the house, you will get to partake in the festivities as all fans will get a bag of their own chalk to throw in the air before tip-off. I’m not sure how this will look on television, but I do know that it can’t be much worse than the first quarter of Celtics games after all of the pyrotechnics.
If you’re keeping score at home, we now have “The LeBrons” version of the Zoom VI, as well as the Big Apple Edition. I’m sure there are a few more that escape me, but the “Chalk” will be the latest.
