Delonte West Back Before Break?

While the Cavs have played reasonably well since Delonte West broke his wrist at Chicago on January 15th, they would certainly do well to get him back on the court sooner rather than later.  His perimeter defense and mid-range scoring abilities are un-mirrored by any other players on the Cavs’ roster.  The Cavs have won 7 out of the last 10 games if you count the game where West was injured, but that doesn’t tell the whole story.  While I won’t call it “ugly” the Cavs have, at times, been about as pretty as a Pittsburgh cheerleader with Delonte on the mend.

But the news could be turning for the better.  The News Herald reports that Delonte might be back a bit before the all-star break.

“The last report I got, this is coming off on Thursday,” he said. “This is exciting news. Plus, I’m running out of suits.”

Let’s hope that Delonte is right to be optimistic and that he won’t have to go out and buy any more suits.  The Cavs have been fortunate with elevated performances from Lebron James and Mo Williams, along with some surprise contributions by Sasha Pavlovich.  Assuming those types of performances continue, the Cavs might even be deeper today than they thought they were before Delonte got hurt in mid January.  At the same time, there will be a lot less worried Clevelanders if we don’t have to bet on Sasha playing at his current level for the rest of the season.

Can’t wait to get Brother Red Bush back. He plays with more heart than anyone I’ve ever seen.

“Plus, I’m running out of suits.”

    haha, i love this guy.

I love Delonte, but would urge him not to try to expedite his return, tempting as it is. Use the all-star break to further heal up and then come out guns blazing afterwards. Broken bones should be given every precaution in a league w/ such physical play

@ Mendy – That was almost as good as “It hurts and everything, but i can still wear my pinky ring.”

D-West needs his own show a la Josh’s Cribb’s. He’s hilarious. We’re gonna LOVE having you back Delonte, just don’t rush back too soon. Get healthy. We’re holding it down well enough to wait on you.

As long as he is back by Feb 18th I will be extremely happy… that’s when the Cavs schedule goes from a game every 4-5 days to every 2-3 days and it’s when we will need or depth on the bench the most

just because he wants to come back before the all star break doesnt mean that mike brown will let him. delonte would have played with a cast on if they let him. back in boston the trainers actually had to hide his uniform because they didnt want him playing in a game.

What is it about Delonte that makes everyone love this guy? Maybe that weird mixture of eccentricity, genuineness, vulnerability and playing his heart out at both ends of the court, all the time. Sounds like a man crush, I don’t care.,I like rooting for this guy more than any other Cleveland athlete. And his interviews? The best. “Yes-suh!”

  • D-Train

d west is the man. can’t wait to have him back

  • Humboldt

Harv21 – I think you hit it right on the head
