February 17, 2009BDL Weighs in on the 2009 NBA MVP
February 18, 2009While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
“By the time Thursday’s 3 p.m. NBA trade deadline passes, the Cavaliers may indeed have the exact same look they have now. But it won’t be for a lack of trying. General Manager Danny Ferry and his assistants have been involved in a flurry of talks coming out of All-Star Weekend and the Cavs are actively engaged in a number of trade scenarios. League sources continue to indicate a deal isn’t likely at this point, despite lots of haggling.” [Brian Windhorst/Plain Dealer]

Those of you keeping track of would-be free agent linebackers can now scratch Arizona’s Karlos Dansby and Baltimore’s Terrell Suggs off of their list. [Arizona Republic and Baltimore Sun]

Doug Lesmerises on (Cleveland native) Ohio State’s Thaddeus Gibson: “At end, Gibson will be a first-team All-Big Ten candidate, I believe, in 2009, maybe ready to follow Penn State’s Aaron Maybin as the best pass rusher in the Big Ten. Williams showed he can get after the passer, too, and will be involved in passing downs at the very least.” [Plain Dealer]

Should the Browns be looking at “big named” free agent wide receiver like T.J. Houshmandzadeh? (Pun intended) [Dawgs By Nature]

And finally, Jon Steiner weighs in on MLB’s Commish: “My biggest problem with this whole issue is that Selig still wants all the credit for the resurgence of the business of baseball, the explosive revenue growth, and the new stadia growing like fungi throughout the country’s metropolitan areas. But when it comes to doling out even a nominal amount of blame for some of the game’s recent embarassments, he’s nowhere to be found. Actually, strike that. He comes out defends his own ignorance and incompetence as a Commissioner.” [Bugs and Cranks]

Here’s hoping the CAVS acquire a low post option by tomorrow, I think there are decent odds that Danny will get that done. (can Joe Smith’s contract still be bought out?).
“Can Joe Smith’s contract still be bought out”
Yes, but it won’t be.
The hornets need him, especially since they’re still in good shape to make the playoffs. Hopefully a Camby deal happens. I think the good news is it doesn’t look like Boston will be improving their roster.
That’s only good if you’re talking about winning the East. If you’re talking about winning the whole thing we need another big man (see Lakers game in Cleveland).
I think Camby would be a smart, safe choice for the Cavaliers as they look to prepare their frontcourt for the long-term. Sure this would cut some of J.J. Hickson’s minutes for the rest of the regular season, but wouldn’t Andy and Z be getting all of those minutes in the playoffs anyway? I think Camby can be an incredible contributor to this team and would make our front-court match up quite well with the Lakers.
The problem we have had with the Lakers in our previous two meetings is our low post defense, and Camby is arguably the best low post defender in the NBA. Combine his abilities with those of West (our best perimeter defender) and LeBron (finally developing into a great perimeter and team defender, though not that great against 4’s like Odom in the low post) and we are without a doubt the best defensive team in the NBA. The Celtics used to own that crown, but the decline of KG this season and last year’s playoff series prove that this one acquisition would give us the edge.
I completely agree with Jacob. I don’t see Jamison neutralizing Gasol, Odom, Duncan or Garnett quite like Marcus Camby could.
Wouldn’t it be a rip if the Browns signed Ray Lewis? hahaha…I hate the guy, but I would love to see him get a staph infection….
Umm…I mean, I would love him in a Browns uniform.
