The Timberwolves are not a good basketball team. I’m sorry, but I feel the need to be upfront here. With that our of the way, is there a chance for the dreaded ‘trap game’ here? Highly unlikely. The Cavs come into this one riding a 10 game winning streak, and are the hottest team since the all-star break at 18-2. More team records could fall soon, as the Cavaliers are approaching the team record for consecutive wins- 11 (tied earlier this season.) No Cleveland team has had multiple winning streaks of more than 9 games in the same season. Until now.

It goes without saying (and yet I’m saying it) that the team will set a new franchise mark with each victory they post the rest of the year. The most important number right now is 6 however. That is the Cavs magic number to secure home court advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Game Notes

deepqThose stats beside the T-Wolves players are from the media notes for tonight’s game. Talk about your spin! I went to Cainus Hoopus (Wolves blog) for a little Minnesota perspective, and found what I expected. More talk of the draft than of the actual team. Here is an interesting quote- “The Wolves’ lack of heart and pride (and, if you want to be charitable, health and experience) is preventing the franchise from exercising a normal, logical mode of development because they don’t want to reward quitting and thus engender worse habits than are already beginning to crop up with this squad.” Yikes. That might explain why Kevin Love, Mike Miller and Randy Foye are coming off the bench there.

It would be nice if the Cavs came out early and put this team away. Let’s not have this one be a confidence booster for the young Wolves. There is no reason in the world Cleveland shouldn’t dominate this one from start to finish. In the previous meeting, LeBron scored 32 but played 40 minutes. I think we’d all like to see the Cavs’ regulars get some time off in the fourth quarter. Maybe we’ll have a J.J. Hickson sighting?

The Cavs need to get primed for the playoffs, and so do you. With that in mind, check out the new shirt available in the WFNY swag shop!

Is a “trap game” simply a game a team is favored to win and then doesn’t? I’ve been seeing this term used a whole lot around here and just want to be sure that I’m clear on this, or if there’s a more precise usage than I presently see.

With Al Jefferson healthy, I really like Minnesota and they did give us some fits last time we played them. However without them, they are just a bunch of formerly successful college players who really do not have a rhythm in the pros.

I think trap game would be a game that you are supposed to win, but right before a big game or series comes up. With Dallas coming in next needing wins to secure a playoff spot, it seemed somewhat appropriate. But I may have stretched it a little.

I always thought a “trap game” was one where the team is:

    a) Coming off a big game;
    b) Has a weak or easily disregarded opponent next (the “trap”); and
    c) Has a big game immediately thereafter

I don’t think tonight would qualify, since the Mavs are a decent-but-not-great next opponent.

Of course, we’re all talking about Cleveland here. Even when the team is setting team and individual records left and right, we’re all-Ackbar, all the time.

wow the wolves are bad… lets put this one away early!

    that shirt… is AWESOME!

i’m embarrased to say, it took me a few seconds to get it

and laundromat, a trap game is one of those games that the team is not only favored to win, but everyone and their mother expects them to win.
the team figures its in the bag before tip off, slacks off, and ends up losing, being caught completely by surprise.

That shirt is awesome, and I’m not trying to nitpick, but I think it could look at lot cooler if you made the Q have a center perspective point, so “deep” actually could be inside a Q shaped tunnel. Feel free to call me an idiot if you disagree. Go Cavs!

    Idiot.

Hey man, I did my best on the shirt.

DP, those of us that grew up watching Classic Concentration when home sick from school love the shirt the way it is.

The most exciting thing now is the number has dropped to 5! Isnt it like 9 for the Finals though?

PS: That shirt is awesome! I think I will have to get one!

Sam- For the finals we have to stay a game ahead of LA. They have the tie-breaker on us. Currently we are 1 game up in the loss column. Right now we have to win as many as they do. No room for error there.
