Reason No. 3,249 I’m pumped about baseball season: The kids can play! “Indians general manager Mark Shapiro spent several minutes gushing over [Michael] Brantley, [Trevor] Crowe, [Matt] LaPorta, catcher Carlos Santana, third baseman Wes Hodges and several other prospects during a conversation with reporters Wednesday. “It’s the best layer of talent we’ve had in a long, long period of time here,” Shapiro said.” [Jerry Crasnick/ESPN]

Plenty holes to fill: “Good thing our new coach wants to build through the draft. Not so good that he wants to do it with this team.” [Dave Kolonich/Cleveland Reboot]

Cleveland Frowns on the serious tip: “Our time at the Q last night told us that this might be the wrong way to look at the current economic conditions. Because while there were surely fewer people at the game, it seemed like we knew a larger percentage of the folks who were there than we would have had the games been as crowed as last years. Maybe the fact that there were fewer people there, made it easier for us to connect with the people that were there. Which suggests that maybe all “this economy” is really telling us is that we need to strengthen our connection with those people. The ones closer to us.” [Cleveland Frowns]

I hope this all0-out whine is more of a frustrated season than actually thinking that your team should have won the game: “It was an entertaining game for the most part. We saw some interesting things like the Sasha PavlO’Neal 4 step crab ball fake. LeBron James missed a WIDE open dunk. Shaq fouled out by sweating to hard. Cavs coach Mike Brown spent more time on the court then Jared Dudley. And then there was this….” [Bright Side of the Sun]

On the recent Browns moves: “While this signing appears rather non-descript on the surface, there is a message within Mosely’s signing. A season ago, defensive linemen in Cleveland would give the impression of taking plays off. In some cases, they would seem to fade out of existence. Mosely won’t be the most talented player on the field. He may not even be better than those he will compete with for playing time. What is absolutely certain is that Mosely will show up and play his role. The extent of that role will be known soon enough.” [The OBR]

Help is on the way-the Browns are speaking with the agent of just CUT NY Jets journeyman third string DT Nate Robinson (not the NR of the NY Knicks).
Looks like another multi-million dollar cap investment for a washed out Jets castoff. Good news is that the Browns defense will be fortified both on the field and on the cap with backups that will suck up to Mangina. We’ve now got the LB, DE, and DT to shore it all up-for those who will say they are just backups, wait until opening day rolls around.
You know what’s odd? Cheering for a Cleveland team that’s losing and having complete confidence that they’ll rally to win.
I loved how Richardson looked like a complete ass. He said he was trying to get the crowd going, and I can understand that. Against any other team in the NBA, he probably makes the dunk.
Seriously though, is it still a well kept secret about Lebron’s closing speed? I can’t see how it possibly could be. At any rate, I think it’s awfully funny that he was crying foul to the media after the game. He got contact, yes, but he certainly wasn’t hammered. I would like to know what went through his mind when he was halfway around and saw the number 23 right in front of his face.
I liked when LeBron blocked the spinning basketball shot.
I’m calling them Mo-daggers from now.
@IRB?: Thats what a basketball person does.
@marco
What’s odd to me is what most Steeler fans do. When their team is a loser, you don’t see them so prominently sporting their jerseys, super bowl champ shirts, etc. Why is that? Oh yeah, they’re not die hard fans like Browns fans. That’s why it maybe so odd to a non-Browns fan.
@ Chuck
Right on! You never saw Steelers stuff in this town in the late 80’s. And the ones who wore it, got made fun of (at least when I was 10).
Something is more than a little wrong with Daniel Gibson. I didn’t see the second half, but in the first half he just watched a loose ball at his feet and really didn’t want to (or could not) make any effort to get it. Either his bad toe is totally messing him up or he has “first-year-of-my-contractitis.” Either way, though, he’s a turnover waiting to happen when he’s ball handling, he’s lost his shot, and the coach needs to just sit him for a while as soon as Delonte is back up to speed. Notwithstanding his late make against the Clippers, he’s a liabilty on the floor right now. They need to give his minutes to Kinsey or somebody until he gets his head/toe straight.
Can someone make a name for LeBron’s speed down after the guy and swat the shit out of the ball?
