April 23, 2009Preview: Blue Jackets vs. Red Wings (Game 4)
April 23, 2009I know most of you can’t stay up late enough to watch the NBA playoff matchup of Nuggets vs. Hornets. Both of the first two games of the series started at 10:30 PM EST. Well, after game two, Denver is up by two over Chris Paul and the Hornets. Also, game two can be described using two words that are really very painful for fans in Detroit. Chauncey Billups.
Last night (err this morning. Thanks NBA!) Chauncey Billups did to the Hornets what he used to do to the Eastern Conference. He dominating while facilitating. Last night Billups had 31 points on 8-15 shooting including 4-6 from three point land. All the while, he had 4 assists and 4 rebounds. His ability to finish off the ball as a spot up shooter allowed Carmelo Anthony and Kenyon Martin to get 15 assists last night combined.
The real question is whether or not anyone cares where Allen Iverson is other than Detroit casino security and AI’s mom.
I know we kind of beat it into the ground, but what would this first round series be like if Detroit still had Chauncey Billups on the team? Never mind the fact that if he was still there they wouldn’t be an 8 seed. If you didn’t believe it all before, you should believe it now. Denver is looking like the biggest opposition to the Lakers in the West at this point because of injuries in San Antonio. But even if Manu Ginobili was healthy, this Nuggets team might feel a bit more dangerous because of their newfound intensity on defense and their ability to take care of the basketball.
Obviously the Cavs still need to win two more games before Detroit’s brash trade story can be told. But until that time, just keep looking out West to see how bad this whole thing could end up looking for Joe Dumars if he isn’t able to successfully resurrect his team with all the newfound cap space.

If there is a God it will be the city of Denver that eliminates Kobe Bryant.
My brother in law just moved out to Denver for work, and he is begging for a Cavs-Nuggets Final. He said he will be getting tickets and showing up with his CAVS gear.
Everyone is talking about how L.A. is going to waltz into the finals and that the Cavs are going to have the toughest road out of their conference….I don’t see it. Denver and the Lakers would be a great matchup and if nothing else Denver would wear down the Lakers by taking them 6/7 physical games. That’s not even to mention that Houston could also give the Lakers fits. Combine that with the fact that the Lakers seem to be reading a lot of their own press clippings and I think that whoever comes out of the West is going to be going against a rested and hungry Cleveland Cavaliers.
We know the Cavs will be hungry. I can only hope that they are also rested!
What this tells me is how overrated Joe Dumars is as a GM.
Iverson trade aside, Denver is showing Detroit fans, what if.
What if Carmelo Anthony was taken ahead of Darko Milicic in the 2003 NBA Draft? Well, it’s playing out right now in Denver and, for the Cavs’ sake, thank God it’s out west.
To me, that’s almost as sweet as seeing the Pistons crumble these last few season, beginning with the Eastern Conference Finals in 2007.
That picture cracks me up. Makes me think he’s just chanting “chauncey’s number 1! chauncey’s number 1!” to himself before taking a free throw.
[…] them dismantle the Hornets anyone would be impressed. But look at how they have been built. It has been said here before, but Chauncy Billups has made Denver a legit title contender. He has come in and complimented […]
