Cavaliers Open Thread: Game #76 – Cavs at Magic
April 3, 2009Magic 116, Cavs 87 – Somewhere, The Magic Just Made Another Three.
April 4, 2009Jay Cutler apparently isn’t a fan of Eric Mangini. Eric Mangini apparently isn’t a fan of anything exciting. “The paper, citing a source, said that Cutler’s agent, Bus Cook, made it clear when talks began that Cutler refused to play for Mangini and that he feared Cutler wouldn’t report to the Browns. Cutler was ultimately traded to Chicago for quarterback Kyle Orton, Chicago’s first-rounder this year and next year, and a 2009 third-round pick. Chicago got Denver’s fifth-round pick this year.” [Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com]

LeBron’s evolution, in photo form. I get depressed when I think about the fact that his tattoo artist has probably been paid more in the past 6 years than I ever will in my life. [Si.com]

Could we be seeing the Buckeyes opening it up in the near future? “And why should he change? Ohio State has won or shared the last four Big Ten titles and averaged 10.75 wins during that span. Tressel’s teams have recorded double-digit win totals in six of his eight seasons as head coach.
But he has to change, the masses cry, and in many ways they’re absolutely right. College football is a quarterback’s game now more than ever. It’s about offensive innovation and spreading the field and taking risks with tremendously versatile skill players.
Tressel knows this, and he spent part of the offseason on Tobacco Road picking the brains of coaches from four ACC schools. He could incorporate more elements of the Wildcat and the pistol into Ohio State’s offense this fall.” [Adam Rittenberg, ESPN.com]

Braylon Edwards NYC NK? “I would imagine that Braylon would love to play for the Giants. The team is solid and should contend for a championship in 2009 and the marketing and entertainment possibilities for Braylon could be endless. Braylon could acheive the superstardom he craves in New York. However, this may be more wishful thinking on Braylon and K2’s part, as I’m sure several Browns and other players around the league would love to play for the Giants. Martin Rucker would probably love the chance to be a star in New York. This doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.” [Dave Kolonich, Cleveland Browns Reboot]

That photo/LBJ piece is a great find. I love pictures of him about to throw it down with four Pistons standing right there. Also, the one where he gives Bo Outlaw a facial is a good bonus…
I am eternally grateful that Cutler didn’t want to play for us! The Browns have the most loyal fan base in the league, and a crybaby, egocentric headcase like Cutler would have set our already unsecure lineup back yet another step. Terrell Owens is one of the many examples of how pure talent and lack of intangibles (locker room presence, leadership, no off the field sideshows) can completely wreck a team atmosphere. T.O. has single-handedly shook up the Eagles, the Cowboys, (49ers?) and the jury is still out on Buffalo. I don’t care how much talent a guy has if he can’t put the team first. If i were a coach i’d rather have a guy who attends every activity, loves his teammates, and works his a@# off every single day than someone who thinks the world owes him something. Cutler obviously doesn’t fathom how privileged he is to be in the NFL to begin with. He needs to take a few lessons from players like Payton Manning and get his head screwed back on straight. He has an opportunity that most of the rest of the world would sign a deal with the devil to get. Thank you Chicago for making this a non-issue in Cleveland any more!
