Developing News: NFL Trade Rumors Heating Up
April 12, 2009Celtics vs. Cavs – Open Thread
April 12, 2009While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
Flip Saunders looks like he will have another coaching gig very soon over in Washington: “The Wizards have committed to Flip Saunders as their next head coach, and officially will announce as much sometime this week. This contradicts a pretty reliable source who claims Avery Johnson is first in line.” [Peter Vescey/New York Post]
The stats people over at Basketball Prospectus announce their All-Defensive Team: “As I’ve discussed extensively this season, defensive statistics remain very much a work in progress…. Evaluating defense remains at least as much an art as science.” [Kevin Pelton]
I love it when Terry Pluto talks about numbers, it just makes me feel like us stats people are finally getting somewhere: “The Cavs enter Sunday’s game with Boston with 38 home victories. Every team that has won at least 38 home games eventually reached the NBA Finals. Five of the nine won NBA titles.” [Terry Pluto/The Plain Dealer]
Should we flip out about the Indians 0-5 start, or should we just relax and enjoy April baseball: “In a way, we are all guilty of this. We wait so damn long for the baseball season to start, that we just lose our minds the first week. We get tortured by endless hot stove news, meaningless spring training updates, and even more meaningless World Baseball Classic highlights. So when the real thing comes along, we come sprinting out of the gate and lose sight of just how long the season is. Go outside. Hug your kids. Talk to your wife. Baseball is a sport designed to cripple your spirit in six months, not six days.” [Dave Lozo Dot Com]
Matt LaPorta left a game earlier yesterday as Aaron Laffey didn’t look so good: “The Columbus Clippers lost both games of their doubleheader on Saturday night, losing the first game 5-1 and the nightcap 5-4. Both games were seven innings because of the doubleheader to makeup the rainout on Friday night. In the first game, lefty Aaron Laffey only went 3.1 innings and threw 60 pitches before being removed, possibly setting him up for a callup to Cleveland to assume the 5th starter spot with lefty Scott Lewis going on the disabled list. In his 3.1 innings he allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, 2 walks and had 1 strikeout.” [Tony/Indians Prospect Insider]
An intriguing promotion that calls of the Angels to do something radical to memorialize their young prospect killed by a drunk driver earlier this week: “But if the Angels really want to honor the life of Nick Adenhart, really want to attempt to make an impact, really want to emphasis the lesson from his loss, their next tribute is obvious: Ban beer. For one game, don’t promote alcohol, celebrate drinking or, most importantly, sell a single bottle of Lite, glass of red or Jack and Coke.” [Jeff Miller/The OC Register]

Anybody out there watching the Indians game? Up 3-0 in the bottom of the third after a two-run DeRosa home run. That is our only hit of the game as Purcey has allowed four walks. Sizemore scored in the first after stealing second, then moving to third on a wild pitch and advancing home on a throwing error.
I’m not. It’s not on here, but more importantly there’s a tradition unlike any other on the TV.
Hello, friends.
Masters doesn’t really get interesting for another few hours.. Not sure if that is just me, but I can’t stand watching golf all day long. A good ol’ afternoon Indians game followed by a big Cavs game sounds good to me though.
I thought he was talking about Easter 😛
I think Avery makes the Wizards a solid team next year. However, this also makes them the de facto bandwagon dark horse pick, which probably means they’ll suck again.
Blasphemy! The Masters has been interesting since Thursday. Clearly you’re not watching in HD. Absolutely breathtaking.
Phil’s on a tear right now.
*gah, I meant Saunders, not Avery.
about the jeff miller article:
beer didn’t kill adenhart, a terrible decision by a complete idiot did. millions of people drink every day… but they’re smart enough not to get behind the wheel of a car afterword
To add on to mendy, there is no way the Angels pass up all the money they get from alcohol sales. Yes, they would tremendous goodwill by doing that, but since when do giant organizations make the right decision?
Saunders makes the Wiz a lot better than they were with Jordan, IF they buy into his philosophy. Saunders had a problem with Ben Wallace back in the day, so it will be worth watching to see if the Wiz feel the same way.
