While We’re Waiting… Manu Ginobili’s Injury, Browns Draft Board, and Bootsy Collins on LBJ

While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.

How fitting.  The one team that may have given the Lakers fits loses a key player for the rest of the season. “Manu Ginobili will miss the rest of the season and playoffs for the Spurs after tests Monday revealed that his troubled right ankle has gotten worse. It was the news San Antonio dreaded after Ginobili sat out the fourth quarter in Sunday’s blowout loss at Cleveland, and leaves the Spurs limping toward the postseason in search of a fifth NBA title since 1999.” [Associated Press]

Just what I would do on my spring break: “For college basketball players, the off-season is a completely different animal than the season is. During the off-season, players often undertake major transformations, as some lose a ton of weight, some put on a ton of weight, or some choose to grow out facial hair. While the latter is certainly applicable to me, I have gone through a much bigger transformation in my life. I am a roller derby fanatic and I’m not ashamed to admit it.” [Mark Titus/Club Trillion]

James Walker gives his version of what the Browns draft chart should look like come the big day. [ESPN]

At least it cost us less to lose: “[Mark] Teixeira and starting pitcher CC Sabathia, who signed free-agent contracts worth a combined $341 million in the offseason, had rough starts to their Yankee careers as the Bronx Bombers fell to the Orioles by a 10-5 score in their season opener.” [Dan Graziano/FanHouse]

And finally, Scene Magazine’s Vince Grzegorek sits down with Rock legend Bootsy Collins to discuss music, basketball, Buckethead and more.  Great interview. [Vince Grzegorek/First Cuts]

Maybe Ginobli should stop falling over every time he shoots the ball, or tries to defend someone looking for fouls.

  • Lyon

While the idea of having Raji sounds good, I don’t think we need anyone with a sketchy background right now. Let’s get someone who probably won’t get arrested. We have enough police problems at this point

  • Boomhauer

Interesting article about LeBron and fouls (and then some stuff about 2010 – Joe Johnson a Cav?!)

  • Chris M

@ Nicko – Seriously – he attempted one ( in the 3rd quarter i think ) on a 3 pt shot and he looked at the refs with his hands up and the ref almost laughed. I watched it again like 3-4 times on my DVR and couldn’t believe how far the contact was from him, but he dropped like a rock.

    Funny stuff.

Where’s the analysis showing where LeBron stands with respect to getting to the line compared to Wade, Bryant, and Jordan?

  • http://waitingfornextyear.com/ Rick

It must be easy to write the Cleveland draft analysis article.

“The Browns desperately need those assets added to their defense. If ______ fulfills his projection to become a No. 1 pass rusher, he would take a lot of pressure off outside linebacker Kamerion Wimbley, who would get fewer double teams and develop into a better player in his own right. The pair of ______ and an energized Wimbley in 2009 would be a significant upgrade from last season.”

Copy and paste….fill in the blanks. Article written. Every year.

Seeing James Walker’s analysis for why the Browns would consider Crabtree reminded me of this post I wrote just one year ago: http://waitingfornextyear.com/?p=664

My how things can change in just one year.

  • Nicko

@4. Chris, I know exactly the shot you are talking about. He was still complaining about it (or God knows what) during the next time out. He is a great player, but I wish he would just play….

  • http://waitingfornextyear.com Scott

@Lyon: FWIW, Raji and his camp are denying any wrongdoing and looking to find out how this all started.

  • Chris M

@ Lyon and Scott – Deadspin just posted this talking about these guys.

Apparently the NFL is challenging the information that this blog “leaked” regarding the drug tests.

So what does this change as far as everyone thinks of this guy? It changes everything for me, if in fact the positive UA story is untrue.

Boomhauer, the author lost me here

“knowing the integrity of the refereeing corps as a group and believe NBA officiating is the best in sports”

  • http://waitingfornextyear.com Craig

I thought every player from Boston College was a dope head.

    See: Green, William

  • Chris M

Matt Ryan would like a word…

  • bridgecrosser

DANG! I had the Spurs at 20-1 to win the title. This is not going to help.
