Rays Pitcher Sonnanstine Bats Third Thanks to Lineup Card Snafu
May 17, 2009Double Dose of Double-A: Akron Aeros Weekly Review – 5/17/09
May 17, 2009Cavaliers news stories are few and far between during this week of relaxation for LeBron and company, and thus I am here to breakdown the crazy week that was for the Cleveland Indians. Several roster changes took place along with a little winning streak and some more struggles and here is the chronological look at what transpired:
– The week kicked off with an impressive 9-4 victory over the White Sox, just when everybody had given up on the team that was 10 games under .500 by May 10. Pavano pitched decently and Cabrera continued his hot hitting. Indians Record = 12-21
– Roster Change #1 brought Carroll back off the DL and sent down Barf.
– Jeremy Sowers followed up on Tuesday with another ugly start, in what could be one of his last appearances in a Cleveland uniform for quite some time. See Roster Change #2 and #3.
– The Indians proceeded to win the series on the back of Cliff Lee, their second series victory of the young season. Not including whatever happens to be the final results of this weekend, the Indians are 2-7-3 total when breaking down their series play.
– Roster Change #2 had the Indians activating reliever Luis Vizacino and sending down Sowers.
– Meanwhile, some people were scratching their heads in Akron as Hector Rondon joined the bullpen and Ryan Edell came back down from Columbus to join the starting rotation. Just today, the Aeros all-time saves leader Randy Newsom was traded to Pittsburgh for a player to be named later and Scott Roehl joined the Aeros pen. With the Indians signing and redistributing relievers in the organization, Edell and Roehl came back to the place they called home in 2008.
– Cleveland then won game one of their series with Tampa Bay on Thursday, winning three out of four games for just the second time this season. By comparison, the Indians won three of four games five times easily last year, as they cruised to a mediocre 22-21 record on May 17th.
– The Tribe then lost game two of the series with the Rays, bringing their hopes of another winning streak crashing down in the face of newcomer Luis Vizcaino blowing it in the ninth. The Indians also were defeated in game three of the series,
– Roster Change #3 had the Indians designating Masa Kobayashi and promoting UCLA product David Huff to make the start on Sunday while Roster Change #4 had the Indians swapping Sipp for Greg Aquino from Columbus.
– The week will end Sunday afternoon/evening as the Indians currently trail Tampa Bay 7-5 in the top of the sixth, and it looks like they will lose another series despite having the pitcher hitting for Tampa Bay. An odd lineup rule has not been enough to propel the Indians to the lead as Huff struggled in his debut and the Indians are having difficult in engineering a come back to tie up the series.

I can’t deal with this Tribe team anymore. They are ruining our summer and it is still only May. Sheesh.
“Roster Change #1 brought Carroll back off the DL and sent down Barf.”
Yep, I was just about to vomit thanks to how sick I am of this team, until they re-activated Carroll.
I loved using Denny’s great photoshopping.. Such a sad looking Chief Wahoo, and it might be even more sad how it accurately depicts this young season.
Perhaps as the season goes on Chief Wahoo can become sadder.
Or maybe in a couple of weeks you guys can add a black eye and black out a couple of his teeth.
Yes, these are the things about the Indians that are keeping me entertained… sad.
They really need to fire someone. Start with Carl Willis.
Chief Wahoo sadness indicator, much like the Braylon Trade Rumor indicator?
Chief Boohoo…
