Darius Miles Too Bad For a Feel-Good?
May 15, 2009Reminder – Cleveland Marathon this Sunday May 17th
May 15, 2009I take the job of WFNY Columbus Clippers cub-reporter very seriously. In fact, the theme of today was going to be “Press Pass Ahoy!” for me.
That’s right. I had press credentials all lined up for today. I was going to head down to Huntington Park, head down onto the field for BP (which would be cool regardless, don’t you think?), and try to catch up with one Travis Lee Hafner and get a brief “interview” of sorts. I had my sweet digital camera and digital voice recorder all ready to go. I’d polled the WFNY guys and had a nice little bevy of questions ready to ask him. I was even going to try to use my camera to get some video of his BP (and the BP of others, too).
I was stoked.
And then, about 1:25, I got an e-mail from the Media Director of the Clippers saying that Pronk will NOT be available to the media today.
No big deal, right? There’s always tomorrow, right? Wrong. In a weird scheduling quirk, the Clippers are on the road starting tomorrow, and are not back in Columbus until Monday, May 25th. Most likely, Hafner will be done with his rehab assignment by then. It would seem this move was fairly calculated by the organization. Perhaps they don’t want Hafner talking to the media about his injury? Shoot, even my not-really-a-journalist lead question was “What percentage would you say you are, health-wise?”
Que sera, sera, I guess.
I will, of course, keep tabs on how Travis is doing while playing for the Clippers as part of the “Clip Show” coverage. And, the good news is that I was able to get press credentials. So, as part of my continuing “Clip Show” coverage of the Clippers, I wanted to open it up to you the readers: are there any players that you’d like for me to try to catch some time and chat with? Any questions (being serious/within reason, of course) you’d like me to try to ask?

I’d actually be curious to hear from Andy Marte. Obviously the last few years have been turbulent for him, going from top prospect to clearing waivers (probably a touchy subject), but he’s still only 25 and off to a good start this season for the Clippers.
I’m curious if Jeremy Sowers has real estate in like the Mansfield area… kind of a midpoint, but just a little closer to Columbus…
Speaking of good old AM, I was traveling for work a few weeks back in Raleigh, NC and saw that the Clippers happened to be in town playing the Durham Bulls so I decided to go (very ironic as I’ve only made it to one home game this year and I live less than a mile from the stadium). I “snuck” down to the first row behind the dugout and ended up sitting next to a family decked out in Red Sox gear. The guy started yelling at Marte asking him if he missed Boston, if he could get a baseball for his kid, and then finally why he wasn’t playing, when he was in Boston he was the number one prospect (obviously this guy hadn’t been paying attention to the tribe the last 2 years). Andy was very nice about it and just responded by saying I don’t play very much anymore, I haven’t been doing that good…anyways…I’d like to hear some more from him too he seemed like a pretty good guy.
@Scott: Jeremy Sowers… Lexington’s Finest?
I’d like to know just how fast Michael Brantley is. Please ask him: can you turn off the light switch on the bedroom wall and be in bed before the room gets dark?
Josh Barfield: So what do you think you need to do to stick in Cleveland… since you haven’t really been getting opportunities up there, but have been performing when you have.
are you still going to the game? i am!
Too bad about Haftner. I was already planning on going to a game to see him play once the Clips got back from their road trip. Still will probably go, though.
I’ll be at the game here in Scranton on Saturday to watch the Clips face the hated little Yankees, and maybe on Tuesday as well. I’ll shout any questions we have out to Pronk as he walks back to the dugout.
“Hey Pronk, you rule! By the way, at what percentage do you think the shoulder is?!”
Got to see my first Clippers game tonight. Beautiful ballpark and had a lot of fun. Actually had to get Standing Room Only tickets because all the seats were sold out, but was eventually able to move down to the seats (until my good buddy Usher Bob kicked us out).
As for the game, Pronk just looks screwed up behind the plate as he went 0-5 I believe. He had a couple weak bloops to short, as well as a strike out. Marte continues to light it up. I definitely see a trade on the horizon, as his stock is probably about as high as can be. Overall, a great game as the Clippers scored in each of the first 6 innings and held on for the win!
#6- Barfield is done in Cleveland. It seems like they are hoping he fails. He went 3 for 3 in his only at-bats up there, then gets sent down. Total BS. I would take him over Carrol anyday. I too would like to hear more about Marte. Gotta feel bad for the guy…
