Is Braylon the anti-Cutler: “’I never said I wanted to go,’ Edwards said. ‘The Browns tried to put a trade out there. It’s always about progress in any level of sport. It will always be business. Trades happen, releases happen, I never took it personal. They thought highly enough of me to ask for a lot and in doing so, the Giants couldn’t give the Browns what they wanted. It’s a business.’ ” [NFL Fanhouse]

The white flag goes up on another lost Tribe season: “Should Shappy have waited a little longer to drive the price up for DeRo? Maybe. But I like Perez. He turns 24 on Wednesday and can really bring the gas. He is big and has a mullet and a wicked slider. The Cards have tried him a couple of times as the closer and he may not be ready yet for that role, but he is the future ninth inning man for this team and lets be honest, Kerry Wood should also be dealt.” [Bench Ben Francisco/KingDiesel]

Rob Ryan expecting big things from Wimbley in 2009: “Some people have said it’s up to Ryan to revive the career of Kamerion Wimbley. Well, Ryan said they will move the outside linebacker to different spots, not just having him line up directly over the tackle as was the case last season. Former GM Phil Savage begged the coaches to be more creative with Wimbley, who is not a power-rusher… ‘The young man has great ability to rush the passer. . . . the guy has great talent. . . . he’s a hard worker and does what the coaches ask him to do. . . . We’ve asked him to concentrate on pushing the pocket and using more bull rush and speed rushing. . . . the guy does it every day. I really think he is going to have a tremendous year for us.’ ” [Terry Pluto/Plain Dealer]

He was holding out for a city with more drifters: “During their midseason conversations Kerr never raised the possibility of a trade with Cleveland, according to O’Neal, who said he asked Kerr to not deal him to Portland because the Blazers weren’t close to winning a championship. ‘They have a young team, and their team is pretty good the way it is,’ O’Neal said of the Blazers. ‘When he called me, he didn’t mention (Cleveland). He said, ‘Portland is really making the move for you.’ And I said, `I don’t really want to go to Portland.’ ” [Ian Thomsen/Sports Illustrated]

It has been discussed thoroughly here, but Windy has a concise round up of what to expect this free agency season: “They do not have cap space but do have their salary-cap exceptions: the mid-level of around $5.6 million and the bi-annual of $2 million. What puts them at an advantage is they actually expect to use the exceptions while many teams don’t because owner Dan Gilbert is willing to pay the luxury tax and create the best environment to re-sign James next summer. In addition, the Cavs have never used their full mid-level or any of their bi-annual exceptions since Danny Ferry became the team’s general manager in 2005. Nor in that time has Ferry been active in looking at other teams’ free agents. So expect the Cavs to be significant players in the first few weeks of free agency, even if it isn’t for the top names on the market.” [Brian Windhorst/Plain Dealer]

A massacre at Fawcett last night: “Everyone knows that stereotype about the French treating American visitors rudely, especially in Paris. A curt “no no” here. A thumb of the nose there. When the French came to Fawcett Stadium Friday night, it was bloody noses all around for the visitors, a rip-roaring rude awakening in Canton. The United States deep-fried France 78-0 in a first-round IFAF Junior World Championship game. A festive crowd cheered when running back David Wilson charged onto the field carrying the stars and stripes, then filleted France’s defense.” [Steve Doerschuck/Canton Repository]

Braylon is showing a stunning amount of maturity. I wonder what he’s up to.
Did anyone else see the video of Chris Perez Bench Francisco page? The announcer says “its not a good slider” when describing our future closer. Hooray!!
@#1 contract year
I have been waiting for a coaching staff that attempts to teach Wimbley some new moves. It’s encouraging to hear that Ryan sees potential to do with him some of the things the Steelers have done with their linebackers. When their LBs line up, you have to account for them. When Wimbley has lined up for the past three seasons, you knew he was going to be over left tackle. A guy with Wimbley’s athleticism needs to be moved around, and shouldn’t be rushing from the three point stance every single play.
78-0? US showing off our bad sportsmanship. Who was the coach, Dick Cheney?
