July 9, 2009NBA Trade Rumors: Gerald Wallace to Cavs
July 9, 2009Lost in all of the Anderson Varejao/Anthony Parker news from late last night is Brian Windhorst’s report about which Cavaliers will be playing in the summer league that is set to kick off this Friday.
The Cavs will be starting play in the Vegas Summer League this weekend and will play six games over the 10-day event. Both draft picks from last month, first-rounder Christian Eyenga and second-rounder Danny Green, are set to play. Cavs roster players Darnell Jackson, Jawad Williams and Tarence Kinsey are also slated to be on the team. J.J. Hickson may spend time there doing some rehab but is not expected to play as he recovers from a back injury.
A lot has been made of the Christian Eyenga draft selection. He was actually on LeBron James’ team during the whole Skills Academy fiasco that went down. Many feel that he hasn’t played against any high-level competition despite his high ceiling. And while it’s far from the elite NBA defenders, he will actually be playing against a higher calibur of player so his numbers and development will be intriguing to monitor.
Also intriguing will be if LeBron James’ buddies will be suiting up as they did last season. I expect that we’ll see a roster released late today or early tomorrow and I’m eaglerly awaiting a Tractor Trailor sighting.
And I’m officially concerned about this everlasting Hickson back injury…

We definitely need an official update on Hickson. I keep hearing different things about the severity of the injury. This morning Hoopshype had a rumor about the cavs risigning Wally and trading him and Hickson to Charlotte for Gerald Wallace (who will seemingly never be off the Cavs radar)
I think we assume from here that Hickson’s back is career-threatening, he is doubtful every game. He should in no way ever be relied upon, and anything we get out of him is gravy.
I want an Eyenga jersey
Best thing about Eyenga is that he doesn’t count a darn against this or future year’s cap space. Odds are he’ll never see the light of day in a Cavs uniform………reminicent of Sasha (not Shaka) Kahn.
In regards to Hickson, we all knew this was what the situation was. Windy reported a month ago that his back wasn’t healed and that he would continue rehab and miss the summer league. It isn’t really a new story.
I wonder if Eyenga will get to match up against Sam Young.
Just saying….
I hope someone on the coaching staff speaks French.
