“Win A Ring For The King”
July 2, 2009Shaq Brings the House Down on Day One
July 2, 2009Acquired just last season, pitcher John Meloan will find a new team in the Tampa Bay Rays as the Indians have traded him for right-handed pitcher Winston Abreu.
Abreu, 32, will reportedly join the 25-man roster upon his arrival. The majority of his season thus far has been spent with Triple-A Durham. That’s right – a 32-year old pitcher, in Triple-A.
His numbers, however, are not too bad on the outside. In 23 appearances, he tallied 32 innings and went 3-0 with 10 saves. Abreu has fanned 49 and walked only 10 hitters in 32 innings of work. He has held opposing batters to a .128 batting average (.061 against righties) – something we could definitely use in our pen, assuming it translates.
Meloan, as you all should know from DP’s Clipper updates, has not had the best 2009. He will leave us with an ERA of 5.52 through 25 games.

They were really high on Meloan when they got him from the Dodgers. It seems like he’s never recovered from the Dodgers changing him into a starter. Traded for a 32-year old minor leaguer? Ouch!
ouch.
almost like being traded from the Yankees for cash…nah…that would never happen…
Nice pickup Shappy!!!!
seriously…its a clown show what he is doing with the bullpen.
So you’re saying Meloan was just a loan?
Trust me. I saw Meloan pitch a few times this year and kept tabs on him over the Clip Show. He has one pitch: a flat fastball. He either strikes a guy out, or gives up a hard hit ball. There’s no in between.
So he’s Jensen Lewis?
Meanwhile, the guy the Indians gave up for Meloan and (Carlos Santana) is batting cleanup for the Dodgers.

OT: Russell Branyan is hitting .298 in nearly 250 AB’s. Never thought I’d see that happen. It only took him a career in pro ball to start hitting.
