Is Fausto Carmona Calming Down?
July 17, 2009LeBron James’ Extension Can Be Offered Tomorrow
July 17, 2009More things that are floating around cyberspace that will probably never happen! Yeah rumors! I wish there was more to report on the Cavaliers, but alas…
The Miami Heat are said to be in pursuit of FA Lamar Odom, which would be a tad strange since they had him before. That move alone wouldn’t be enough to put them in the same company as the elite in the East, but there is also talk of bringing Carlos Boozer to the party as well. ESPN’s Marc Stein isn’t as convinced that the Jazz will trade Boozer before the season begins, however. If there is truth to the rumor, it certainly would put Miami back on the Eastern Conference superpower map. Wade, Beasley, Jermaine O’Neal, Lamar Odom and Carlos Boozer would be an interesting group. You could argue that O’Neal, Boozer and Odom essentially play the same position, but try getting rebounds against that group.
In the wild rumor department- Chris Tomasson of Pro Basketball News talked with Hornets star Chris Paul who believe it or not could see a scenario in which he was traded:
New Orleans star point guard Chris Paul insisted he was serious when he said there’s a chance he soon could be traded. Paul was interviewed Thursday by Pro Basketball News, and asked about his team’s financial situation. The Hornets are staring at being well over the luxury tax, and might have to dump some big contracts.
“In this league, anything can happen,” said Paul, at the summer league to watch his Hornets. “I can be dealt.”
Paul then was asked that surely he can’t be serious he could be traded. “It’s possible,” he said. “It’s possible.”
The Hornets made a move last February to save money by dealing center Tyson Chandler to Oklahoma City. However, the trade ended up being rescinded after health concerns surfaced regarding Chandler. Paul is hopeful the Hornets will end up retaining their key players, but knows nothing is certain.
“Right now, it looks like the same cast,” he said. “But, if something happens, it happens. … Me and (forward James Posey say to one another that) we’ve got to work with what we’ve got and go out and play hard.” Posey hopes the Hornets won’t end up again dealing Chandler.
“You never want to see it,” Posey said. “But I’m a player and my job is to go out there and play hard. … You can’t control that part of it (the Hornets’ money situation). You’ve got to control what you can.”
Okay, so the responsible thing to do here is to remind everyone that trading Chris Paul would be equivalent to franchise suicide. IF the Hornets are feeling the pinch of a tight economy now, just imagine what would happen to ticket sales if they dumped Chris Paul?
So how much does Paul make anyway? The all-world PG is under contract through the ’11-’12 season with a player option for the following year. His cap numbers starting with this season- $13.758, $15.202, $16.647, $18.091 (in millions). If there was any one player in the league that I think would equal a guaranteed title for this team (assuming no major injuries in the playoffs) it would be Paul. But again, it isn’t going to happen.
Also worth noting: It seems possible that the New York Knicks could lose both David Lee and Nate Robinson to Europe. The New York Post reports that both players feel disrespected by the Knicks and have been contacted by Olympiakos. With the first pick in the 2010 NBA Draft…

Can the Knicks draft LeBron with the first pick?
That’s how it works, right?!
jazz to match on milsap all but gaurenteeing a boozer trade… whats in the works!?
i still an certain that matt barnes would be a great signing for the rest of the MLE or the BE
“Can the Knicks draft LeBron with the first pick?”
No…but they could trade it to Toronto in a package sign-and-trade for Bosh. I’m sure that’s what any NY fan would tell you, anyways.
Knicks don’t have a 2010 first round pick – Utah owns their pick (via phoenix – marbury trade)
Wouldn’t be that strange for Miami to want Odom back. Remember, they dealt him for Shaq who, at the time, was still one of the top centers in the league…it’s not like they just gave up on the guy.
Wait…does this mean the Cavs will try to re-sign Sasha Pavlovic in four years?
Sorry folks, Knicks do not own their 1st round pick next year, even if it’s the #1 it goes to the Jazz…
Random – that’s great. Makes that possible implosion even better.
But.. but.. LBJ NYC NK!!!!
Didn’t somebody proclaim that the Lakers would resign both Ariza and Odom with their Bird rights??
If Odom does indeed leave the Lakers (and I’m not convinced it definitely will happen) it’s great news for the Cavs as it weakens the Lakers tremendously. Odom is a monster of a matchup problem for the Cavs.
This obviously means we are getting CP3, Odom and Boozer and only giving up JJ and Boobie.
Assuming the Lakers lose Odom, who had a worse offseason? The Lakers or the Magic?
Lakers
Gain: Artest and lawsuits
Lose: Odom, Ariza, and youth at SF (Adam Morrison doesn’t count as a real basketball player)
Magic
Gain: Carter, Bass, and ball hogging
Lose: Turkaglu, Lee, Alston, and assists
Dear Jeff Bower,
Might I interest you in the expiring contract of Zydranus Illgauskas for Chris Paul? We will toss in Mo Williams if you toss us Tyson Chandler in return.
Odom isn’t going anywhere….
Wil@#11-good stuff.
Actually, the trade can work. Check it out, I don’t see why any of the other teams involved wouldn’t jump all over this.

# 13 Nicko, ESPN Radio reported (today) that Odom has less than a 50% chance of being back in LA and that is more likely that he will end up in Miami.
If he signs for the MLE in Miami, I’m not going to be too thrilled given the fact that we swung and missed multiple times before this situation…
I just don’t believe it. I mean I guess he is getting a break on the taxes but I just don’t see it. Call me stubborn.
I hope he does go there. I don’t think that makes Miami that much better.
No way Odom doesn’t re-sign with the Lakers. Believe what you want, but he’s not going to turn down $2M/year just to stick it to Mitch Kupchak.
# 21 Mike, where do you get the $2 mil a year number?
The only official offers I have seen were LA offering $27 mil for 4 years and Miami now offering $35 mil for 5 years
That’s $6.75 mil a year in LA and $7.00 mil a year in Miami (plus the tax breaks)
remember, Miami can be back loading this contract for years they have cap room and only giving the MLE this year
