Ohio State-Toledo Game Available to Public
July 20, 2009While We’re Waiting… Matt Barnes to Orlando, Ferry’s Mindset, and Overrating QB Arm Strength
July 21, 2009While I sit and watch Ben Francisco and his .234 batting average, four homers, and 19 RBI’s in 78 games against all pitchers not named Andy Sonnanstine, I can only look South to see what our boys in Columbus are doing that can take his place. Our good friend and WFNY stat guru Jacob Rosen then hit me up with this statistic:
OF/1B Matt LaPorta is now hitting .378 (19-49) with seven doubles, 2 HR and 11 RBI in his past 13 games.
Uh, Shappy – what are you waiting for?
The excuse of “we need Benny to play CF while Grady returns to full strength” is an argument I do not buy. Shin-Soo Choo came up as a center fielder in the Seattle system. He can man it once or twice a week if he has to. He is a good athlete. The lead story on Indians.com right now is a fluff piece titled Francisco Trying to Turn Season Around. We are supposed to get excited that he broke out of his 0-12 slump with a homer on Sunday afternoon?
Please. Give me “Gator4God” already. Time to see what the future looks like. I already know the present and the past – which is precisely what Benny is.
LaPorta is now hitting .310BA/.919 OPS/11 HR/44 RBI/248 AB’s
Time to get the kid up here and play him EVERY DAY.

Amen.
I wonder what TD is going to sound like after having to watch and write wrap-up this entire season. Will he become an alcoholic? Will he kid-nap Denny and make removal of this duty as his ransom? Only time will tell…
@ Eli – I like naps.
i just don’t get it. next, they’ll be praising his “good attitude.”
Hey Francisco: don’t let LaPorta hit you on the way out!!! hahaha…
Agreed.
And the LaPorta joke above my comment is funny.
Seriously, only thing I can think of is that Shapiro sees something very bad in LaPorta and doesn’t want to be embarassed by bringing him up and playing him every day-given where he and his team currently stand. Stats are fine, but practically everybody at Columbus is hitting above .280 so it makes one wonder what type of pitching is really in that league.
Something is defintely up with Shapetti and their dodge at bringing LaPorta up and giving him his much needed AB’s in this second half. Something doesn’t smell right.
Even on an off day Td is grinding.
“I already know the present and the past – which is precisely what Benny is.”
No…the past was getting to see Franky-G tear us apart over the weekend….I definitely don’t trust Shapiro with corner OFs….he’s the one who likes guys like Delluci and Jason Michaels and Ben Francisco…enough already.
mgbode…….precisely.
Aren’t they carrying 13 pitchers? Just get rid of Abreu or Gosling and bring up LaPorta. Keep Ben on the bench to backup CF.
With the way Guit is tearing it up in Seattle, I wonder if Ben would do the same somewhere else. Might be Derek Shelton’s lousy coaching that is the problem?
[…] 11. The blog is titled "Waiting For Next Year" but with this post advocating more Matt LaPorta and less Ben Francisco, it’s just a wee bit misleading. [WFNY] […]
[…] no secret that the future is bright for OF/1B Matt LaPorta. TD dropped some knowledge yesterday about how well LaPorta has been hitting of late, as he had another solid week. In 18 at bats this […]
No, leave LaPorta in Columbus, we need him here
