NBA Rumors: Trevor Ariza Considering Cavaliers Afterall?
July 6, 2009LeBron To Ariza: I’m Staying In Cleveland
July 7, 2009While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
On Vic the Stick’s struggles: “Manager Eric Wedge believes the season has caught up to Martinez physically and mentally. He thinks carrying the load for injured Grady Sizemore, Travis Hafner, Asdrubal Cabrera and others has worn him down. That’s why Martinez didn’t start Sunday against Oakland. Wedge wanted to give him two days off, including Monday’s off day, “because one day just isn’t enough for him right now.”
Wedge believes Martinez is probably sapped mentally because of the way the Indians have played in the first half. They have lost 12 games in their opponent’s last at-bat. They’ve had losing streaks of six games (once), five games (twice) and four games (twice). They open a three-game series tonight against the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago on pace to lose 98 games.” [Paul Hoynes/Plain Dealer]

This train is taking wins out of Cleveland: “The next time we get that sick feeling in our stomach when the next Tribe star leaves, we might comfort ourselves with the knowledge that there are real world stats that correspond with our sickness. Or, you might also protect yourself from such bad feelings the way we do here at Frowns, that is with a growing sense of apathy toward Major League Baseball as a whole, and especially in comparison to the NFL and NBA, leagues that understand that meaningful competition requires a level playing field.” [Cleveland Frowns]

Doc’s Up-and-coming linebacker: “Three linebackers under Jim Tressel — Matt Wilhelm, A.J. Hawk, James Laurinaitis — left as All-Americans and Butkus Award finalists. Sabino comes with more hype than any of them. The main obstacle preventing Galippo’s successor at the top of the ’08 linebacker crop from the same heights as his predecessors in the middle may be the pesky line of succession: Fifth-year senior Austin Spitler remains at the front of the queue.” [Matt Hinton/Dr. Saturday]

If you’re concerned about the Cavs adding pieces… “All things considered, it’s a near certainty the Heat will open this coming season with virtually the same roster that was booted out of the first round of the playoffs. If Wade is comfortable treading water for a season, the Heat will have crazy cap space to make things happen in the summer of 2010, but it’s hardly a given Miami makes the playoffs in the interim, let alone builds on last year’s improvement.” [Matt Watson/NBA FanHouse]

Nothing on the biggest news from Cleveland on LeBron reportedly “staying”?!!
Another thing about MLB.
In the AL, the major markets, Boston, NYY, ChiSox, and LaAngles typically (this decade) send 3 teams to the playoffs, while 1 comes from the remaining 10. (occasionally it’s 2 and 2).
Grossly generalizing, the big market teams have a 50-75% chance of making the playoffs, the rest of the league has 10-20% chance.
So, sure it’s still possible, just way less likely.

Deserves it’s own post, no? Will be discussed this morning, stay tuned.
Thanks Scott. I’m dying for a hometown take on this…
it was a recruiting ploy…even ariza didnt buy it…

No need. We’ve all heard it. Let’s start now.
Get him a pen. That’s my take.
I would love to be able to have LBJ sign a 10 yr deal…but the thing is, he is doing the same thing DWade is doing…he knows how things change quickly…he may want the option to go where he wants…I dont really put anything into the rumor that he is staying…once he makes an official announcement, then ill believe it…
Comments need more relevance!
Commenters need more patience!
Announcements dont mean anything, signatures on contracts do.
ariza isn’t pulling a carlos boozer. that doesn’t mean that Lebron wasn’t telling the truth.
it just means that ariza seems like a classier guy who is showing a lot of respect for Rick Adelman who has reportedly been showing tons of interest in him.
it’s a slow day Denny…we need something to ramble on about that we care about! We all know Vic the Stick is pooped out…we know that Tress will play the senior over the younger guy (TPry being the exception)…
plus it said something about adding pieces, so this does pertain to why those pieces arent coming here…
😀
and Brown and Ferry wouldn’t guarantee him a starting spot. They said him and Delonte would have to fight it out.
I’d hate to see Victor get hurt and while playing through such a worthless season and…….who am I kidding….LBJ NEWS LBJ NEWS LBJ NEWS!!!
/moves over to relevant story…
🙂
Swig agrees with Frowns! Concord reigns. The spirit of Obama descends upon the land.
(Thx for link, fellas).
