Valbuena Does it Again, Tribe Tops Royals
August 25, 2009Shaq vs Common Sense?
August 25, 2009While we all know what the Browns did to the Lions, what else happened around the AFC North during pre-season week 2?
Bengals 7 – Patriots 6
This game will probably be remembered best for Chad Ochocinco’s extra point kick. In the end, we didn’t learn much about the Bengals. JT O’Sullivan is a capable backup. He went 10-13 for 141 yards. Carson Palmer didn’t play as he was nursing an injured ankle. The ankle injury isn’t thought to be serious and the Browns don’t face the Bengals until they come to Cleveland on October 4th. The good news is that the Bengals’ offensive line gave up 4 sacks. The bad news is that the Browns’ defense isn’t as good as New England’s.
Steelers 13 – Redskins 17
This is another game that doesn’t mean a whole lot to Browns fans. Pittsburgh was without QB Ben Roethlisberger who was out with an ankle injury just like Carson Palmer. A name to keep in mind is Stefan Logan who is an undrafted rookie out of South Dakota. The Steelers gave him the opportunity to try out on punt and kick returns. He average 39 yards on 4 kickoff returns (one for 60 yards) and 12 yards on 4 punt returns. Who knows if the guy will even make the team, but for one game at least he was doing an Ice Cube McNeil impression.
Jets 23 – Ravens 24
I don’t know which of the following statements is more correct. The Baltimore Ravens defense is great. Mark Sanchez is going to have a lot of growing pains as a rookie quarterback. We know the first statement is definitely true. Ray Lewis made the rook feel mighty uncomfortable on the first passing play the Jets ran last night. As he was about to sack the former Trojan, Sanchez dumped a pass straight into the big fat arms of Haloti Ngata, who rumbled 25-ish yards for a touchdown. About two plays later, Lewis goaded Sanchez into another bad pass that Lewis should have intercepted and returned for another touchdown. Luckily for Sanchez, Ray dropped it. I could just sense Pete Carroll sitting somewhere saying over and over again, “I told you so, Mark. I told you so.” But this is an AFC North roundup. The Ravens looked good on both sides of the ball. We still don’t know how good Joe Flacco is all on his own. Then again, it doesn’t really matter when you have a defense like that and a running attack that features Willis McGahee coming off the bench. Despite threatening retirement, Derrick Mason looks quite capable of carrying that receiving corps for another season.

I was really happy to see Sanchez throw that pick. I didn’t want to have to suffer through pundits clamoring about how the Browns made the wrong moves again.
Ngata is a beast.
I hope our QB’s their health insurance premiums paid up.
could you imagine Ngata and Rogers on the same line… instead we have Wimbley….
how’s wimbley’s spin move coming along these days? has anyone picked up on it yet? man that guy is an awesome pass rusher
i meant the stupid shoulder dip move . . o well is spin is lame too
