August 31, 2009While We’re Waiting… Belliard and Thome to L.A., Rich Rod’s Leash, and More on Ryan Tucker
September 1, 2009Remember the surprises that I said were bound to occur as the Browns reduce their roster?
ESPN Cleveland (850AM/WKNR) reports that the Browns have released offensive lineman Ryan Tucker.
The oft-injured offensive lineman was looking to be an integral part of a run-first, ball control offense. This move is definitely surprising, and you have to wonder if there was more to it whether it be contractual or injury-based.
Recall that Tucker agreed to rework his contract this past offseason to make it more cap friendly. More on this as it develops.

not really surprising, he contemplated retiring just before camp, and as you said he is oft injured. Makes sense since Hadnot returned to practice today.
i also saw reports that he had knee surgery today, so he wouldn’t have been available for at least 4-6 weeks maybe longer. Saves a roster spot for someone that can play. Although, I think Tuck was good and gave his all when he was healthy.
This means that St. Clair might win the starting job, and that dude better knock it off with all the penalties. The laps don’t seem to be working with him.
Yeah, can’t say I’m surprised here either. Given the fact that he was playing with the second/third team OL’s before the injury, it’s not too surprising that the Browns don’t want to reserve a roster spot for a backup lineman with an injury history who will be rehabbing from surgery. I hate to see Tucker go because he was a true gamer, but this isn’t much of a surprise to me.
I was more surprised to see them cut Hood who they brought in to compete for a starting spot and couldn’t beat out Hank Poteat.
Not surprising in the least. Always injured or out dealing with pychological problems. A fine player when healthy, he’s not had an injury-free season in years. After 13 years in the league, this guy was the longest of long shots to make this team. He simply can’t be counted on, and that is unfortunate.
Has it ever emerged what psychological issues Tucker has been affected by? It’s been interesting to witness the recent surge in Social Anxiety Disorder in the MLB this year — I wonder what Tucker’s diagnosis was a couple years back. Anyone have any insight?
I think Tucker was more in the RG spot, i dont really know if we have any other option at RT other then St Clair… now thats scary. I bet this sets up for the browns drafting a RT in either the 1st or 2nd round next year.
Free Joaquin Gonzalez!
Humboltd, my understanding is that Tucker has been dealing with severe depression issues and is on medication for such.

@Isis: thanks, I guess he does have all the classic symptoms of severe depression. Hope he’s doing alright in the wake of the release that he didn’t appear to be on board with
