Browns Notes: Recapping the Weekend
August 10, 2009Tribe Flashback: Sandy Alomar Jr.
August 10, 2009On Friday night, Shin-Soo Choo was hit by a Mark Buehrle pitch.
The following Saturday, Paul Konerko, Gordon Beckham, and Scott Podsednik received a few pitches that were just a bit too inside.
On Sunday, no one was hit by a pitch, but that didn’t stop White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen from speaking his mind on the perceived three-to-one ratio.
“Yesterday I get upset, they hit one guy and they throw in to another guy. I got upset. I know for a fact they’re not throwing at nobody, but enough is enough,” Guillen said. “I have Konerko bruised all over the place. Around the league, be careful because we’re going to hit people. I don’t care if I get suspended because I need to protect my players. When we went to Cleveland they hit two guys, not on purpose, but someone can get hurt out there. You can pitch in, but if you don’t know how don’t do it.”
Thankfully Guillen was willing to accept the fact that those three pitches were just bad, as opposed to being intentional. Especially the one from Tomo Ohka that hit Beckham. As supported by the four runs in one-third of an inning, things were not going all that well for Tomo. There was a lot more going on that simply the inability to pitch inside.
While I can understand his frustration, Guillen may be preaching to the choir when discussing Cleveland pitchers hitting his hitters. Indians batters have been hit 20 more times (65) than the batters of Chicago (45). In fact, the Indians have had a dozen more players hit by pitches than any other team in the MLB. Kelly Shoppach and Shin-Soo Choo are among the top five in all of baseball in terms of HBP, Ryan Garko is sixth.

I understand why Ozzie is not happy, but that’s Ozzie being Ozzie. The Indians however shouldn’t ever complain since they use the HBP more as a weapon to get on base because that’s the true definition of grinding.
Dorn!
The fact that Mark Buehrle hit our guy first should put an end to this discussion. Has anyone forgotten how Buehrle all but ended Pronk’s season one year by “accidentally” hitting him in the face?
Guillen should shut his cake hole.
Who’s Ryan Garko?
Just get rid of Wedge.
Alex’s comment is hands down the best of the day.
