Cavaliers Shouldn’t Overlook Joe Smith
August 13, 2009WFNY Podcast #20
August 13, 2009Last night Fausto Carmona was a tough luck loser. Carmona who has looked infinitely better since returning to the bigs recently put up 6 frames of solid pitching. He gave up five hits and two earned runs while walking three and striking out three. His rough inning was the third. Fausto started out by hitting Andrus. Fausto gave up a double leaving men on second and third. He was able to coax two outs out of the Rangers via ground out to the pitcher and fly ball and it looked like Fausto might get out of it. But Carmona couldn’t beat Josh Hamilton as he doubled in two. After that, Fausto faced only eleven batters over the next three innings before departing at the end of six.
He wouldn’t get any help. Tommy Hunter was pitching for the Rangers and the rookie took his record to 5-2 pitching his shutout into the 8th inning. In his nine games this season Tommy Hunter is averaging just over six innings per outing. He has a gaudy 2.26 ERA and more than twice as many strikeouts (35) as walks (17.) It is comforting to know that these new Indians, are just as incapable against rookie pitchers as the ones that have preceded them. Sizemore (3-4,) Travis Hafner (2-4,) and Asdrubal Cabrera (1-4) had the only hits off of Tommy Hunter.
I give credit to anyone still watching the Tribe on a daily basis. I love the team, but I haven’t watched a complete game with any level of attention in quite some time. Even as the Indians have hit something of a hot streak, I just can’t seem to get myself all amped up to watch the new young guys. Maybe I will give it another try when the callups happen in about a month. If you are wathching the game, listening on the radio or even following the Gamecast, you can use the comments as the open thread.
Currently the Indians are 10 games back in the Central. They finish up the series with Texas today (in five minutes) at 12:05 PM with Corey Scott Feldman taking on “Jay” of Jay and Silent Bob Jeremy Sowers.

It’s great watching Trevor Crowe and Hack Giminez eat up AB’s at the expense of Matt LaPorta and Michael Brantley. Way to go with that agenda Shapiro. Trying to merit a #1 pick on Crowe is analagous to a #1 on Michael Aubrey.
I think Wedge’s soul purpose in life it to ruin Marte’s career. sure he is only hitting .200, but give him a chance, Giminez is batting .188 for crying out loud.
An open thread during a day game and I’m only the 3rd comment. That says a lot about how the fans (even die-hards like WFNY visitors) view the Tribe.
I was at the game and I can tell you there was nothing to write home about
Giminez is a total hackjob, shouldn’t be near a major league roster. Crowe is a waste product; the only reason he’s on the roster is his Shapiro draft status. Giving those guys AB’s with prospects available is beyond ludicrous.
What’s wrong with Matt LaPorta? (and please don’t anyone tell me he needs more minor league seasoning).
Hack Giminez and Black Crowe.
I really wish I could look back and see what Isis had to say about LaPorta when he was called up originally…my guess is it went something like this…
“This LaPorta kid is just another one of Shapetti’s lackeys that has no business taking away AB’s from Ryan Garko. Garko has shown time and time again that he is a cornerstone of this franchise, and will be patrolling Left Field with David ‘the Hammer’ Dellucci for the immediate future, as they are the two best Left Fielders we have. Period.”
