“Perhaps this is most apparent in the team’s dominant performance on special teams. Dominant is no exaggeration here. It wasn’t just the field goal block, or yet another Josh Cribbs kick return across the 50-yard line. It was the coverage units that were most impressive on Saturday, forcing and recovering a fumble, and smothering the Titans returners on every kick. Two kickoff returns were stopped at or near the Tennessee 10-yard line. We suppose special teams is as fine a barometer as any with which to gauge a team’s overall discipline, toughness, and cohesiveness. The difference between this and last season couldn’t be more stark.” [Cleveland Frowns]

“Braylon Edwards’ leaping, one-handed catch just out of bounds in the end zone on the first drive of the third quarter shows once again why the Browns are willing to put up his plethora of drops at time. He is just so big, strong, fast and, especially, talented. He showed it minutes later when he caught the TD from Quinn on a quick slant. He got inside the defender and to the spot quickly, and this his size screened the defender away from the ball.” [Lane Adkins/The OBR - S/R]

A follow-up on the latest Rich Rod saga in Ann Arbor: “The school may be able to lessen a potential blow from the NCAA by conducting its own investigation and self-reporting any violations. Given how accustomed fans and alumni are to a program that is considered “squeaky-clean,” it stands to reason that the university will do all in its power to uncover what is really going on with the football program. Allegations of players being overworked and required to stay long past NCAA-mandated limits may not seem like a big deal, but any intentional and willing breaking of the NCAA rules will not be looked at kindly.” [Bruce Ciskie/NCAA FanHouse]
