While We’re Waiting… Elam Talks Camp, Admiring Script Ohio, Ranking Delonte’s Lines

While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.

Open field tackling?  Quite the concept: “We start every day with an open field tackling drill. It gets you going early in practice, there’s no sluggin’ around, it’s uptempo, guys are talking trash. It’s definitely a good thing. […] I can already tell that all those sprints, all the hard lifting I did in the off-season is coming in handy now. I feel like I’m getting there, getting better each and every day. I’m working hard to try to push myself.” [Abe Elam/AbeElam.com]

Just another thing to love about the Big Ten: Script Ohio [Law Buckeye/Rivalry Esq.]

Comparing this to the deal for Victor… “I’m told the Red Sox apparently approached the Mariners and first tried to do a [Felix] Hernandez trade with Seattle exclusively. Boston wanted Hernandez and gave the Mariners a list of eight prospects, from which Seattle would be allowed to pick any five.  They included: RHP Clay Buchholz, RHP Daniel Bard, RHP Justin Masterson, LHP Nick Hagadone, RHP Michael Bowden, LHP Felix Doubront, OF Josh Reddick, SS Yamaico Navarro.

Seattle turned that down.” [Geoff Baker/Seattle Times]

Stepien Rules breaks down their top five lines from yesterday’s Delonte West KFC Freestyle.  Hot sauce in my baaaaag… [Brendan Bowers/Stepien Rules]

The great Joe Posnanski is leaving the KC Star for Sports Illustrated.  I loathe the day that our top flight beat writer(s) are scooped up by the big boys. [Joe Posnanski/KC Star]

Maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll fire King when Pos arrives.

On the other hand, KSK would get awfully quiet on Monday mornings.

  • JK

I cant wait to see some open field tackling. TACKLING FUEL!

  • Brendon

Open field tackling? Theres no open field tackling in Cleveland!

  • DK

I like the camp Mangini is running…much improved from RAC

Script Ohio is awesome, when done once or twice a season.

When they roll it out before the game vs. OU, it starts to feel a little overdone.

Dear TBDITL – get over yourselves, and back off the excessive scripting.

  • adam

that column by posnanski was awesome

  • MrCleaveland

Ha ha, that’s a great story Pos told on himself and Magic Johnson!

  • JK

Denny – What about the guy who takes his little kid to the OU or YSU game cause thats the only game the brokers will come down under $100 a ticket and wants to see the band do Script Ohio? Also, I think the article said it’s a TRADITION to do it before every game.

  • MrCleaveland

    Once or twice a season???????

  • DK

just a quick note from espn….

Cleveland Browns receiver Braylon Edwards practiced for the first time in training camp Wednesday after the team took him off the non-football injury list.

Denny, why do you hate America?

  • TampaBrett

    @ #4

    I totally agree.

  • http://waitingfornextyear.com Denny

When I was at OSU (02-05 seasons) Script Ohio was trending to be done more and more each season. My freshman year it wasn’t performed at least half the games I went to. By my senior year it happened almost every game, which I felt was taking away from it.

Personally, I think it should be done at homecoming and at the UM game. Alumni band day too, I suppose.

But it cheapens it if you do it every game. That’s just my opinion, ALTHOUGH IT IS OBVIOUSLY MORE IMPORTANT AND FAR SUPERIOR TO ALL OTHER OPINIONS.

What about if someone puts NCAA Football 10 Script Ohio on loop?

  • MrCleaveland

Why not sing the fight song just once or twice a year? Why not do the OH-IO thing just once or twice a year? Why not wear your colors just once or twice a year? Why not kiss your Mom just once or twice a year?

  • DK

@12 seems much more stringent and organized too…

  • Swig

    Misuse of sarcasm tag, IMO.

  • Swig

    oops, should have been

  • http://waitingfornextyear.com Denny

@ Mr Cleaveland – Maybe I come off as a little curmudgeonly. That being said I think it’s a great tradition that is much more special when done a few times a year. Fight songs are different, OH-IO is silly (and should never be done more than twice in a row), wearing colors is different, and kissing your mom – well, I’ll kiss your mom whenever I please (ba-zing!). When I go back to a game, I don’t expect to see Script Ohio if it’s not Homecoming, Alumni Band Day, or Michigan Week.

@ Swig – I was actually shouting that time. Methinks the sarcasm font might need some tweaking in the future. smh

Well, who wouldn’t want to turn Clay Buchholz, Daniel Bard, and a couple other random guys into Felix Hernandez? Those may be good prospects, but the success rate isn’t that good. And a quick glance at Hernandez suggests that he could be a very good pitcher, with a 1.16 WHIP this season, and decreasing walk and home run rates over the past few seasons. He’s had some bad win/loss records, but he’s also been playing on a bad team.

  • Fabio

Personally, I love the script Ohio and I always get chills when they dot the “I”.

On an unrelated note, the more I read the comments here the more I’m starting to become convinced we have more than a few people that post that also browse Fark. I’m not sure why…something in the language.

  • MrCleaveland

Okay, curmudgeon, Brutus Buckeye and I are coming over to your house to burn a couch on your front lawn. I’ll be the guy in the short-sleeved white shirt and old-school glasses.

  • http://waitingfornextyear.com Denny

Brutus is my boy! One time we hung out at Chipotle by the Newport together.

Also, I have an OSU tattoo on my wrist. It’s not like I don’t have pride – I absolutely love it there. I just don’t like seeing Script Ohio brought out more than I feel it ought be used. But, I have no say in things. And I’m a curmudgeon.
