We give a [darn] about the drama that you do bring, I’m just trying to change the color on your mood ring: “So far, Shaq has shown the shooting touch that encourages opponents to use the ”Hack-a-Shaq” tactic, along with, in the Williams’ exercise, diminished mobility that makes him possibly more vulnerable than incumbent center Zydrunas Ilgauskas against the high pick-and-roll. Shaq’s show might be a disturbing peek into the future, physically. Philosophically, the Cavaliers’ attempt to win the NBA championship will depend on O’Neal’s willingness to renounce the very premise of “Shaq Vs,” which is that he has no limits and is more than “just a basketball player.” [Bill Livingston/Plain Dealer]

At least we will have a reason to watch the playoffs: “Seeing Vic [Martinez] in a Red Sox uniform could be just the prelude, however. As we mercifully count down the days until this season ends, October baseball still looms. Considering the number of former Wahoos littered around the rosters of playoff contenders, I began thinking about what I would like to see least when the postseason actually begins and just what my reaction might be to yet another swift bitchslap from God upon the humble and steadfast masses of Cleveland sports fans.” [Vince Grzegorek/’64 and Counting]

Hey, Thomas Jones did alright… “Lewis celebrated his 30th birthday on Wednesday. That’s the good news. Come on, everybody likes their birthday. But 30 many times marks the beginning of the end for NFL running backs. Father Time drags their aging, beaten-up and bruised bodies down from behind and doesn’t let them get back up. Can Lewis, one of the best in the game in his decade-long career, shake off Father Time, just as he has done with so many other would-be tacklers over the years? We’ll see.” [Steve King/The OBR – S/R]

BDL breaks down the best bang for buck in terms of NBA contracts. I bet you can’t guess who’s top billing. Okay, you may get it. [Kelly Dwyer/Ball Don’t Lie]

Good news, Browns fans. On opening day, we get to play a team that may just be more dyfuntional than we are. Huzzah! “Childress has established that there’s one set of rules for Favre and another set for everyone else. While participation in all of the offseason workouts was stressed for Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels (and everyone else on the roster), Favre was able to skip training camp, walk in and have the starting job handed to him the same day he got his jersey. It’s not shocking if that created some resentment.” [JJ Cooper/NFL FanHouse]

They still have Adrian Peterson right? Let’s be honest the Vikings would win if I was at QB for them with AP against our defense.
I think the Browns might actually sneak a win in week one. AP or not, we may actually show up on opening day.
Shaq needs to quit embarrasing himself on Tuesday nights. I can’t see how this “cross-training” is preparing him for the upcoming season.
The more I see “Shaq. v.”, the more I wonder if we’ll be trading his $20 million contract at the deadline to a team looking for cap space…
Minnesota is a horrible first matchup for us.
Great run defense (Williams trial will not be concluded, so they will play)
Great run offense (Adrian and Chester ain’t so shabby).
Favre’s arm won’t be worn out yet.
You beat Minny by confusing their secondary and making them pay for being overaggressive….hope we can do that.
they also have a poor coverage return, so perhaps Cribbs can help us shock them.
but it would be a pretty big upset week1 to win….now, week 2 versus Denver, that’s a game we should take.
Ben Walace is #4 on the “bang for buck” article. Does this guy follow basketball?
that was his Piston’s contract being referred to.
Ben Wallace was among the most underpaid NBA players when he was with the Pistons, all-NBA defensive player, dominating the glass and wreaking general havoc.
Then, Chicago stepped in and made him one of the most overpaid players….and his injuries made that contract even worse.
