Peralta on Wedge: “Something Needs to Happen”

September 19, 2009Not the best news we want to hear on a Friday afternoon.
Per Brian Windhorst, Cavs guard Delonte West has reportedly been arrested in Washington D.C. on a weapons charge following a routine traffic stop.
Apparently, he had more than just hot sauce in his bag.
WUSA, a television station in Washington D.C., reported today that West was pulled over in Prince George’s County, Md., at 10 p.m. Thursday night for making an unsafe lane change on his motorcycle. The police say West had two handguns and a shotgun in his possession and he was arrested.
I’m sure we’ll have more on this as it develops…

Denny Edit 3:50 PM – thanks to awesome things like Twitter, people have flooded the interwebs with alleged photos from last night. You can find examples here, here, here, and here. Enjoy.

Update – 4:05PM: Per the WaPo, Delonte was in fact Desperado:
The officer pulled him over, and West told the officer that that he was carrying a handgun in his waistband.
That prompted the officer to call for back up, and investigators found that West was actually carrying three guns — a Beretta 9mm in his waistband, a Ruger .357 strapped to his leg and a shotgun in a guitar case slung over his back, said Maj. Andy Ellis, a spokesman for the Prince George’s County Police Department.

Delonte.. c’mon man… use your head. How dumb can one be?
HOLD ON!!!!! Maybe Delonte is one of those “gun totting” “teabaggers”… he’s just like 6 days late for the D.C. tea party… If he flew instead of drove he could have got there on time.
Defend your second amendment right Delonte. Keep on keeping on!
What?!? 9mm in waistband + 357 on leg + shotgun in guitar case + riding a motorcycle = out of his mind.
Like most, I’m sure, I can’t help but to think that the DETAILS of this story are freakin’ awesome – shotgun in the guitar case, and the sweetest bike I’ve ever seen. But the overall picture could not be more depressing for 2 reasons: 1) the human aspect of it – ‘Te suffers from depression and who knows where the hell he was going with those guns and what he was planning on doing with them, and 2) the selfish aspect – this was the ONLY thing that could have gone wrong before the season started, some stupid off-court crap. I realize the situations are different, but I can’t help but think of Plax, and boy would it be a hit to the team/season if he goes away for the year. Thankfully, as bad as this situation is, it appears it could have been a lot worse – he was cooperative with the police, and if he was going to off himself, he didn’t need to get on the bike and drive somewhere else to do it. One news station last night reported that jail time is “possible, but doubtful.” Let’s hope they’re right, and not just trying to ease our Clevelander hearts.
One other thing I was thinking about this morning in regards to this – does anyone but me think that Lebron probably has ZERO clue what’s going on with arguably the 2nd best player on last year’s team? I’m not saying he needs to be ‘Te’s big brother or anything to that extent, but if my #1 goal was a championship, I’d be checking in on the important piece to that puzzle that suffers from depression from time to time. While I admit I don’t know for sure what kind of contact he keeps with his teammates, Bron just seems so consumed with himself this offseason, and with training camp right around the corner, he needs to get back into team mode.
Not good for the cavs but wonderful for comedy value. The shotgun in a guitar case is amaaaaaaazing
I’m going to dig up the old genesis so I can get my Road Rash on. I surprised Delonte wasn’t whipping people with chains as he was cruising down the highway.
Despardo is on HBO right now..
keep making jokes folks, we are in a lot of trouble if he isnt at his best this season
not to defend west, but prince georges county MD has a reputation for corrupt policework.
