Delonte West Missing from Practice Again (Updated)

Welp, when it rains it pours (and apparently it’s been raining in Cleveland for four straight days).  In addition to the news that the Indians decided there is, in fact, something wrong with a little bump and grind, and the Browns going back in their QB wayback machine, we hear from Brian Windhorst that Delonte West was again absent from practice this morning.  And again, it was unexcused but apparently expected by the team.

To quoth the Twits:

Delonte West is not at practice. Absence is unexcused. All others present.

Team seems more relaxed today, though. Seems to me they were expecting it. Music playing at end of workout now.

Based on the information we’ve gathered from our sources, the situation is in fact more serious than many originally thought.  At this point we should be guarded in our optimism regarding a timeframe for Delonte’s return to the team.  Obviously we wish him the best, and there are more important issues at hand than his status with the team.

Stay tuned for more information as the story develops.

UPDATE 1:42PM : Another tweet from Windy, this one a quote from Lebron:

LeBron on trying to call Delonte: “We’ve tried…We don’t know if he has his phone. You don’t look into it. Either he answers or he doesn’t”

UPDATE 3:16 PM : Windy has a column up now, with a quote from Mo Williams:

“Outside of this practice facility, outside the arena and the fans there are things that he struggles with,” Williams said. “He’s seeing professional help for it and we’re behind him. I’m not worried about. I would be worried about somebody that doesn’t have a supporting cast that is trying to help him.”

Everyone should pray for this kid.

I love Delonte’s game. He was the very last one scrappin’ at the end of the Magic series after it was well in hand for ORL. The man never gave up. You have to love that. I really want him to play but like Denny said, the game comes second at this point.

Where do you draw the line on caring for somebody in Delonte’s condition and simultaneously running a team that has so much on the line this year? I don’t envy Ferry and Brown at all. Seems to me that they are in a no win situation.

    Question for WFNY:

Why no “OMG Someone Somewhere Said LeBron is Leaving/Staying” post today? What, are you guys busy or something?

[Please credit double points for double question mark]

    Sigh…

The game should come second for Delonte at this point but the organization needs to move forward. If he is out for any length of time the team is not going to have a true ball handler (giggles) coming off of the bench. The Cavs, hopefully will be looking to bring somebody in to fulfill this role.

LBJ and his teammates can’t get a hold of him. I hope that they sent some authorities over to his place to, at the very least, check on him. Obviously he’s alive since all they did was call him. I think there would be much more worry from the players. But, he missed all of camp last year. Hopefully he gets help and comes back healthy.

This is starting to worry me.

  • Nicko

Taking a Summer off the medicine, and recently starting back up brings the mood back worse. Believe me, I have seen it. If he stays on it, he won’t be himself again for a week or so. Hopefully he is ok.

its things like that make me really happy and proud to cheer for the cavs. mo williams had a quote where he said essentially that if the person didnt have a strong support system he would be worried, but Delonte absolutely does so he thinks things will work out. we have an outstanding human being as coach (regardless of whether you think he does things tactically well), a great owner, and a GM that is willing to work with Delonte.

the whole organization should be commended.

but again, ive been worried for awhile now

I thought this was a fantastic column on the situation

“We have to have a bunker mentality,” Brown said

I want to see Isis defend that statement

That was a good article. Thanks, dwhit
