While We’re Waiting… OSU/USC, LeBron James’ Shot Selection, and a Browns/Vikings Preview
September 11, 2009The Browns Will Win If…
September 11, 2009The football season is officially underway. What an exciting first game it was too. Very proud of the way both teams gave everything they had and left it all on the field. Too bad it had to end in a tie. (I’m talking about Jr. High football, what game are you thinking of?) Yes, I coach football, which has a great deal to do with my absence from the site recently. But here are some things I’ve been thinking about-
– This may be completely crazy, but isn’t it possible that Mangini told Anderson to ‘leak’ the news that Quinn would be starting? How much would it surprise you if Derek was under center at the start of the opener?
– The NBA will most likely start the season with replacement refs. The last time that happened was 1995. It wasn’t a pretty scene. Anyone who thinks NBA refs are terrible should just wait and see how bad the officiating is with the replacements. Yes, a couple of replacements ended up in the league for good, but across the board the officiating was horrendous. The Cavaliers would be hurt as much as any team with the number of charges they attempt to take, not to mention Shaq and LeBron routinely take a lot of punishment in game with regular refs.
– If the Indians were a thoroughbred, would we have to put them down? Losers of 8 out of 10 this team is just downright ugly to watch. Here’s a fun fact for you. Did you know that 2 of the top 5 home run hitters for the Indians aren’t on the team anymore? Victor Martinez is clinging to second place on the list with 15 (he’s tied with Hafner’s shoulder) just 3 behind Grady Sizemore (who won’t be hitting anymore this season either after having surgery this week). Shin-Soo Choo has 14, and Mark DeRosa (!) is in 5th with 13. Are you serious? We traded him IN JUNE!!!
– Scouts Inc. doesn’t think much of the Buckeyes chances tomorrow. They give Ohio State the edge at QB and Defensive Line, but every other category belongs to the Trojans according to Scouts. Despite having lost 4 LBs to the NFL draft they still get the edge at that position? I think the jury is still very much out on Brian Rolle. Frankly, I was surprised to see that Sweat and Sabino didn’t get more snaps last Saturday. Those two came in last year with as much buzz as any LBs I can remember in recent years.

When will the conspiracy theories end? Quinn will be under center on Sunday…book it. Just because Mangini likes to keep things in house doesn’t mean all these wild insane things are taking place back stage. No way Anderson starts.
Not a chance Anderson goes out under center t start the game…..the fans would boo like crazy
I like what I saw from Rolle last week. Spitler, not so much. Hoping the movement of Hines to SS will mean more Sabino on the field.
Not possible. Fact is that the rug was pulled out of Mangini’s farce by the PD (Mary Kay). Quinn is taking all of the first team reps……it’s over. And, he’d never position a numskull like DA in the middle one of his lame conspriacies.
For those who saw Mary Kay Cabot last night on STO, she made the following points:
-Almost all of Mangini’s ex players (except for his Brown’s imports) can’t stand him.
-Almost all of the players league-wide can’t stand him, as well as the national media.
-The NY media can’t stand him.
-It’s well known in NY that Mangini can’t make in-game adjustments, he gets wildly outcoached in the second halves.
Now go ahead and pan Mary Kay. Randy Lerner’s last stand begins.
Mangini has been working out Jeff Garcia all week in his secret underground practice bunker in Berea, and it will be Jeff taking the snaps Sunday. Double book it.
Damn, so no chance of winning the all-important “Most Popular Coach” award this fall? Might as well skip the season altogether.
Also fact: David Huff and Carl Pavano are your current leaders in “wins”
I always double book it. I have like a real book on the outside, and a comic book inside.
“This may be completely crazy, but isn’t it possible that Mangini told Anderson to ‘leak’ the news that Quinn would be starting? How much would it surprise you if Derek was under center at the start of the opener? ”
And everyone criticizes Mangini for overthinking things??
Neither Anderson or Quinn will start under center on Sunday. Cribbs will receive a new contract just before the game and then man the first drive at QB just to screw with everyone.
@Isis: I could care less what the NY media has to say. NY sucks. The only thing I appreciate from NY is the cast from Entourage. If I never hear anything else from NY media every again, I’ll be ok with that. That being said, like all players and coaches who experience “hate”, if Mangini produces, it goes away. That’s all that matters to me.
PS I miss your comments about Rey Maulaluga and Beanie Wells. They make me chuckle.
Crikey. Have y’all seen this story?:

I meant to quote this bit:
Some might remember two years ago when Chad Pennington(notes) injured his ankle in the season opener and Mangini refused to announce the Jets starter for the second game at Baltimore. Both Pennington and Kellen Clemens(notes) went out in warmups for the game, as if they would both start, but neither was quite sure.
Clemens ended up taking matters into his own hands when the Jets went on offense after forcing the Ravens to punt.
“As soon as our defense forced that first punt, I just kind of jogged out on the field and nobody told me not to,” Clemens said after the game.
“-It’s well known in NY that Mangini can’t make in-game adjustments, he gets wildly outcoached in the second halves.”
Isis…If Mangini is so wildly outcoached in the NFL as you state then how in the hell did he have 2 winning seasons in 3 years?
He had to of been doing something right.
I’m all for ANYTHING that gets Violet Palmer, Joey Crawford and Bennett Salvatore off an NBA court.
And the Cleveland media hated Belichick…
