September 27, 2009Browns Week 3 Open Thread: Baltimore Ravens
September 27, 2009As much as some fans continue to give Eric Mangini the benefit of the doubt in his first year as a head coach, it is becoming harder and harder with each growing day. The latest reports of certain Browns players filing grievances against Mangini most definitely does not help the coach’s case.
To protest Mangini’s fines against players, two grievances already have been filed with the NFL Players Association, said a league source, and three more are in the process of being filed now on behalf of Browns players.
All together, at least five grievances will be filed within the next 24-48 hours, and one NFLPA source predicted more could be coming.
Mangini has fined players for such offenses as not paying their hotel bills, players parking in the wrong spots, and having their cell phones go off in meetings. Mangini is trying to deploy structure and discipline to the Browns, just as he did in New York with the Jets, where he also encountered similar circumstances.
I respect that Mangini wants to instill an environment that focuses on responsibility, ethics and team-related behavior. I’m not sure whether or not these grievances will be upheld or not, but there is definitely a disconnect between he and his players. You would like to think that the NFLPA will stand behind the coach in this instance, but it is the Players Association. One can only expect that this news will further depress Mangini’s approval rating.

Just think, Browns fans, you could’ve had THIS GUY:
[WFNY Edit: caution, strong language] Kissing Suzy Kolber
But the Browns are owned by Soccer Boy…
WARNING: Above link might scare your kids…and the language is pretty harsh…
I love Rex Ryan even more with those weekly bits…
WE’RE GOING TUBING!
Mike Singletary too… Want.
mangini might be the worst mistake in a long list of mistakes in expansion browns history.
Can i file a grievance against Mangini for today’s first half?
This is a total embarrassment for the city of Cleveland. It’s only going to get worse. The players have every right to and SHOULD file a grievance for the absurdly arrogant fines levied to bolster one man’s manhood.
Mangino (he must be related to Mark Mangino, right?) should focus on the players he drafts and signs, and not who picks their nose while he bores them to death. He should fine Daboll if he calls another screen, draw, or pitchout.
Discipline you say? No more country club environment you say? Well…………oh kay.
I think it’s arrogant for an NFL player to think that because of who he is, he doesn’t have to pay for things that you and I (the people who basically pay their salaries with our tickets, jerseys and whatnot) have to pay for if we are in that same situation. I think it’s a great thing that Mangini is trying to put these guys in line.
looking back on it, how sweet would it have been to get Rex (HC) and Rob (DC) Ryan and then go get some experienced OC. o well..
Per Mangini’s press conference, the starting quarterback will be named early this week.
wow maybe if they actually played they’d have a point. they have no discipline- rookies throwing [WFNY Edit: tantrums] for hazing, losing 34-3, etc. I’m all for mangini toughening them up. you gotta earn respect from the coaches- just getting to the NFL doesnt cut it. Welcome to the bigs guys, grow a pair.
[…] this past offseason. But in the NFL Eric Mangini’s skin tones dictates opportunity as well as benefit of the doubt. It’s a lesson Cleveland Browns fans are learning the hard […]
I’m sure the players would much rather have Crennel back.
The Cleveland Browns have gotten what they deserve. This bum was fired from New York and hired less than a week later? Come on! “Mangenious” was not even the DC for the Patriot Super Bowl teams, he is a glorified position coach he wants to be Belichick and Parcells, but has no credibility among players. Just stand there Eric and munch that gum!
all I have to say is this guy need to focus on the bigger things, try connecting with your players instead of making them feel like they are in boot camp!!!!!!!! I MEAN FOOTBALL SHOLD BE BALANCED AND IT IS EVIDENT THAT IT IS NOT BALANCED WITH HIM, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TEAM SPIRIT! GET A FREAKING LIKE, APPARENTLY HIS TACTICS IS NOT WORKING………
Can I file a grievance against Randy Lerner, for sitting back quietly while his Browns team get worse every week? Then can I file another one asking him to sell the team, if he continously does nothing- while this once great franchise crumbles? The city of Cleveland, the great Die Hard Browns Fans, and the Season Ticket Holders DESERVE BETTER THAN THIS!!!!
