The Browns Will Win If…
October 23, 2009Bobby V – Nutcase or Genius?
October 23, 2009As coincidence would have it, the Jay-Z tour stop in Cleveland landed on a night when the Cavaliers had the night off. And also a mere coincidence, I’m sure, is that LeBron James found himself on stage for what was the entire two hour set by one Shawn Carter.
Following “Show me what you got,” that properly ended with the line “the king is back,” Jay-Z used the segue to introduce the crowd to another “King” in James. Naturally, this was met with quite the ovation. Similar to the Concert for Change, James used his stage presence to rap with Jay-Z without microphone. Hand gestures galore, James was essentially word for word with the one they call Hova.
After spending a few songs on stage, James spent the majority of the night off to stage left with the rest of the “four horsemen” – Richie Paul (known mostly as the guy with the Kid N Play CD in the State Farm commercial), Randy Mims (player liaison for the Cavaliers), and Maverick Carter (James’ agent) – with all four rapping word-for-word.
One of the James-related highlights, as pointed out by Vince from ’64 and Counting was the fact that James spent a good portion of the evening texting. You know you live in a different world when you can be on stage with Jay-Z, and use that time to send texts and emails.
There were a slew of James jerseys throughout the crowd. And yes, James was on stage when Jay performed a rendition of “Empire State of Mind,” that featured a pretty slick New York skyline in the background. And yes, I’m sure that there will be plenty of people that will attempt to connect this to 2010. But with all of that said, it was a solid show that featured one very unsurprising cameo appearance.
Four days until season’s start…

OMGLOLZ LEBRON IS COMING TO NEW YORK!!11!
I can’t wait until ESPN gets this up.
Oh and LeBron’s arms look much smaller. Trick photography or smaller arms? You be the judge!
Who would be foolish (stupid) enough to connect such nonsense to 2010? Perhaps some of the same who confuse whatever it is that Jaz Z does to music?
I was waiting for Jay to reference LBJ going to NY, LBJ probably said don’t do it, You’ll get booed of stage at your own concert lol.
Jay-Z did call out a guy in the crowd for wearing a Steelers jersey. He then told the guy to take it off and told fans around him to throw it.
That’s Randy Mims in the State Farm commercial who dances with LeBron, fwiw.
‘Tis true. Just assumed he was known more for his endless routine of handshakes and shoulder shrugs during pregame intros.
Look at the third picture (all the way on the right)……tell me that’s not Mr. Larry Hughes sporting a video camera…hahah I know it isn’t him, but it sure looks like him…..looks like the rumors are true guys…Larry is definitely coming back to Cleveland…..
Anybody read Bill Simmons’ NBA preview on ESPN.com today? He basically says there is no way LeBron’s going to the Knicks, but also says that the Clippers (??!!) are LeBron’s best choice.
Can JayZ actually sell out the Q? Does anyone know what the attendance was like?
@9 Simmons wants LeBron on the Clips, b/c he has season tickets to them.
yea but it also makes sense. baron, gordon, bron, griffin. thats the best 4 in the league, if it happened
That was a great concert! As is, all of his past Cleveland performances. Jay Z is indeed “The Baddest Rapper Alive.” He gave a shot out to Shaq, who was there. And he gave a shout out to a Cavs fan-dressed in a CavsFanatic Jersey–and said that it was the best Jersey he had ever seen. Yes, Jay Z can sell out the Q, but the Circus was booked on that night. When Jay Z attends Cavs games–they always win. Dude is good luck! I wish he would buy Usher’s Cavs Shares. LeBron isn’t going to NY or anywhere else in 2010.
