The Browns Will Win If…
October 9, 2009Warriors Looking To Acquire Ilgauskas?
October 9, 2009While the oddsmakers are not always spot on with their assessments, they are usually a good gauge for what the consensus feeling is on a certain player, team or outcome. Given this, Bodog.com has released their thoughts on Braylon Edwards for this week’s game against the Miami Dolphins as well as the rest of 2009 now that he has moved over to Rex Ryan and the New York Jets.
Given that he has had minimal time to work with the Jets offense, the over/under for his total yardage is understandably low at 50.5. I assume that the Jets will use Edwards on more longer routes, allowing teammate Jerricho Cotchery to create space underneath to exploit his hands and abilities after the catch.
But this is just one week. What about the rest of the season?
During his first day of practice, Edwards said that things went well. “It went well with the terminology. That’s the big thing coming over to a new system. Can you get it? Can you learn it? It went real well today. I feel pretty confident.”
Well, the current rest-of-season marks set for Edwards are not as optimistic. With 11 games remaining, the over/unders for Braylon’s total yardage and touchdowns are set at 600 and 4.5, respectively.
This averages out to just over 54 yards per game, a slight uptick from what is expected of him during his first week out. The touchdown total is not awful, but it is also one that is almost eclipsed by the Giants’ Steve Smith only five weeks in.
These numbers are far and away better than he was on pace for through his first five games with the Browns, but they are nowhere near the season that Edwards put up in 2007 – the one that he continually reminds everyone of when his skill set is question. The Jets have a solid running attack with Thomas Jones, Leon Washington and rookie Shonn Greene. Cotchery is on the other side, and tight end Dustin Keller is a crisp route runner in the middle. Sure, he has a rookie quarterback in Mark Sanchez, but those hoping for a boost in Edwards’ production in his new setting may be highly disappointed.
Of course, those in Cleveland wishing for Edwards’ demise may actually be pretty thrilled.
And no, there is no over/under on number of dropped passes or illegal formation pentalies. Yet.

I would probably take the under on TD’s
I could really care less how Edwards does now. If you does horrible, then good for the browns for getting 2 picks out of him. If he does great, then hopefully its enough to get us a 2nd round pick.
Maybe some of the bettors are anticipating a suspension?
Egads! That picture makes my eyes burn.
