Michael Reghi Blows Up About “Really Big Show”
October 7, 2009Braylon Edwards Trade: The WFNY email Conversation

“When wide receiver Braylon Edwards was playing for the Browns, he always used the intense rivalry between the two schools – and the fact that hunting Wolverines is always in season in Ohio — as a crutch when things went bad for him, saying that Cleveland fans were hard on him because he was a Michigan man.
That was a stretch, but it seems interesting – and fitting – that with the trade of Edwards to the New York Jets on Thursday, it has opened a door wide open for – you guessed it – an ex-Buckeye in Brian Robiskie. It is almost a certainty that the Chagrin Falls High School product will now get a full opportunity to play a lot after being pretty much a non-entity for the first four games of the season.” [Steve King/The OBR]

A multi-million dollar decoy: “When I talked back to Cotchery on draft day, one of the biggest things he talked about was having someone across the field from him who the team would have to pay equal attention to, to help him. Cotchery got his wish and then some. Even if Edwards doesn’t catch many passes, his presence will have to be accounted for, and it will change some of the matchups that Cotchery sees.” [The Jets Blog]

Good grief, Charlie Brown: “One who believes he’s entitled to everything — or say even just a career as a leading man in Hollywood in addition to one as an NFL star — might naturally tend to blame others when he gets less than that. It makes sense that such a person would be unhappy, having placed the very possibility of happiness outside of his reach. At that point, what else is there for a guy to do but grieve? […] But that’s no reason to intentionally undermine the organization that’s paying you millions. It’s no reason not to honor a contract; or to violate the principle that one should negotiate before he grieves. At the very least, the New York Jets should be concerned as to just how far Braylon’s sense of entitlement might extend.” [Cleveland Frowns]

Huzzah for more draft picks! “Initial reports have suggested that the “undisclosed” draft picks included in the deal contain the Jets 3rd and 5th round choices next year. If so, these picks – which are desperately needed in Cleveland – could be used to target key areas of need, including right guard, right tackle, defensive line, safety…all right, I’ll stop now.” [Cleveland Reboot]

Did you know that New York is more fun than Cleveland? “It’s always risky bringing a guy with character issues into New York, the country’s nightlife capital. The thing is the Jets had to make this trade. Edwards solves a lot of problems for them on paper, and they give up a minimal package to get him. I like Chansi Stuckey, but guys like him aren’t that tough to find. They’re at least easier to find than guys with Edwards’ skills.” [Gang Green Nation]

(And yes, I’m pretty sure that the image above is Robiske photoshopped into a Browns jersey during a game in Columbus. It looks like Purdue in the background. I guess you’ll have that…)

SCOTT, YOU HAVE NO CREDIBILITY FOR POSTING THAT PICTURE! IT’S NOTHING MORE THAN HEAR-SAY!
DP is right. When I first saw this post, I wondered why were you running a pic of Kellen Winslow.
I think the team in the background is Akron…
I’ll say again that I like this trade. I also like that our team is starting to barely resemble the teams of the RAC/Savage era.
I’m still not sold on Mangini, but if you’re blowing it up, blow it sky high.
It’s actually Akron, but close enough…pretty funny though.
I like the trade too. It came sooner then expected, but its not really that bad. Im hoping Edwards goes on fire for the Jets so we can maximize this trade and get a 2nd rounder. Either way, we have now 3 5th rounds picks, and at least 4 in the first 3 rounds. This is a huge difference compared to the Savage days. Hopefully we get the draft picks right this time around.
I’d feel better about picking up extra draft picks next year if the Browns hadn’t laid such a monumental turd in this year’s draft…
Man, DJ beat me to it.
Still love the Braylon deal. can’t wait to see how he handles all the pressure in NY. You know, they hate the Big 10 up there. They already don’t like you since you played in the Big 10.
@JD – why did they lay a monumental turd in this draft? How can you come to a conclusion on that after 4 games?
Whats Stuckey going to end up being once he gets here? Furrey is a good slot guy, but apparently thats where Stuckey works too. Im a little nervous about our WR core, even though Braylon didnt really do anything to it. It just feels a lot more empty.
Mangini’s brilliant plan is to win every game with special teams. He is trading for and drafting every special teams maniac he can find. He has a three-deep roster for each special team. He figures that with our offense and our defense, the only way we can win is by returning kicks and blocking kicks.
Mer, needs less draft picks!
MrCleveland is correct. We now have arguably the three best special teams tacklers in the NFL. We have to be good at something, why not what we tend to spend the most time doing?
one thing that has not gotten much discussion is the fact that stallworth will likely be back next year…..what are the thoughts on his impact to the team/WR depth?
What a dumb comment from Steve King that it’s “interesting – and fitting” that Robiskie will likely get playing time, due to each receiver’s respective alma mater. The dumb thing about it is that he basically invalidated Braylon’s excuses about Browns fans resenting him due to him going to Michigan, and then instantly validated it again with the drivel about it being fitting that Robiskie now gets playing time. In the same sentence, nonetheless.
i highly doubt stallworth is back next year. once he is reinstated, id be shocked if he is not immediately cut.
Can we get some thoughts from some of the Jets’ blogs? It’d be nice to see their perspective about some of the players…
@17- theres 2 jets blogs up there. The one that says Jets Blog, then Gang Green
The Jets forgot something.
Best way to guarantee Braylon doesn’t catch a pass? Leave him wide open.
@ #9
My concern comes from the fact that on a talent-bare team such as the Browns, they made 5 picks in the first four rounds and only one of them has made consistent contributions to the team (Mack) to date. I know we’re all excited about Massaquoi’s performance last week (and rightfully so), but that still only leaves 2 of the five picks seeing any time out there.
Now I know that it’s probably a bit silly to call a draft a complete failure through 4 weeks of a season. Perhaps I don’t understand the current regime’s philosophy on developing players, but what I see is a number of high draft picks on a team that doesn’t have alot of talent across the board not seeing any playing time and that disappoints me.
Ah, gotcha… thanks Bobby. Didn’t realize that second one was Jets.
@20
Well, we do know Mangini’s philosophy on developing young quarterbacks:
1. You’ve got less than three games get us a win.
2. You screw up and you’re dead to me.
I love this trade. Stuckey is a lot better than any of you give him credit for. Have any of you thought details of this trade have been being worked out for a long time? Nobody understood why we drafted Robiskie and m-mass in the second round but maybe it but I’m assuming Mangini knew as soon as he got there that kellen and braylon would be gone by the end of the season. I’m thinking Mass will be our number 1 with Stuckey moving into the slot position to replace Furrey and Robo moving into the 3rd wr spot. What of Furrey you ask? I think if the last game was any indication they want to move him to the safety position and he’ll have the rest of the year for him to practice with the defense, work on his tackling in special teams in game and get occasional in game time at the position. I hate to say it but all of this is setting up for a decent year next year after we pick up a few more pieces through free agency and the draft and with two extra picks it’ll help the Browns even more. Just my 2 cents.
the 3rd spot is considered the slot. I do think stuckey will become the 2nd wr, and furrey and robo more or less rotating the slot, and we will probably see more of furrey on D. I wouldnt go so far as to proclaim a permanent switch though.
b.e. is a loser.
@10… Whether Braylon was putting up big numbers or not he still needed to be accounted for by opposing D’s. Does anybody realize that Mo-Mass’ big game Sunday was b/c he was opposite Braylon? The D was rotating to Braylon’s side b/c we had/have no other viable offensive threat which leaves single coverage on the opposite side of the field that even Anderson/Quinn (I’m still not sure which one is the worse QB) can hit.
I did that photoshop job! It is akron in the background. I did it right after the draft. Check out my site for more stuff like that.
P.S. where exactly did you get that picture?
First of all its the Model jinx.Until Art gets into the hall of fame. Our team will be doomed. As far as Braylon goes he is a cry baby.No one cares what college he went to just as long as he plays well. That proves he still has a mind of a high school student. The Browns needs to get a coach that will stay and players that will stay so they can learn to respect each other. Paul Brown would be ashamed.
