While We’re Waiting… Browns Fans, LeBron Tops the List, and More Manny Acta
October 23, 2009The Browns Will Win If…
October 23, 2009Mike Mizanin, now known as “The Miz” amongst the WWE has officially become the latest figure to pile on Eric Mangini in a public forum.
And while Mizanin did not go as far as likening him to a fictional character that drowns in a chocolate river, he did take the more WWE approach by explaining his desires to get a bit more physical. In a chat on ESPN, Mizanin stated the following:
“A person I’d like to see and smack the s— out of is Eric Mangini. That’s what I’d like to do. He is doing absolutely horrific. He is horrible,” says the longtime Browns fan. “Brady Quinn sucks. Derek Anderson sucks. But the reason why they suck is that their offensive line is not giving them time to throw the ball. I want to smack Eric Mangini so hard he poops himself. The Browns are the new Lions. It’s horrific.”
Mizanin is originally from Parma, Ohio. His fandom of the Browns obviously stems from his hometown, though he did also spend some time in New York as a cast member of The Real World.
I’m not quite sure what to make of the quote, however. It is definitely different. I can get that fans may not be happy with the direction of the Browns over the last ten years, but to desire physical abuse on a man simply because he is the head coach at present time seems a bit much. Of course, this could be just the shtick of the WWE oozing out… Who knows.
But as Adam Gretz added, “how’s that for a mental image?”

For one, the WWE is a joke, and I dont pay attention to anything anyone involved with it says. Like Scott said, its not real wrastlin (nice south park reference).
Secondly, our RT is our only ‘weak’ spot on our OL. I like seeing Fraley at RG helping out Mack to develop and pick up reads, etc. St. Clair is a bum though. We need to keep a TE to block and help him out. If you notice, DA has typically had plenty of time to make the throw except for when Pittsburgh over loaded on a blitz (which was obviously coming) and we did not have a play to take adv. of their aggressiveness (those blitzes causes the 2 fumbles/sacks, which I think is the only 2 sacks DA has had on him, not certain on that though). The reason why the OL looked awful when Quinn was in the game was because he held the ball for way too long (often more then 5 seconds). Maybe that was poor WR route running, or people just not being good enough to get open, but thats the straight facts. DA is releasing the ball a lot faster then Quinn, and thats why the OL supports DA.
Parmmmaaaaaa
Nice. Quotes from a MTV/WWE star. Who’s next? The mayor of Seven Hills? The manager of Sonic? Frank, the owner of Parma Tavern?
Anyone notice that people around the country (I guess excluding hacks like Leno) seem to speak out against Mangini more so than making fun of the Browns. Most criticisms of the Browns basically go that Mangini is ruining the franchise and Browns fans deserve better. Everybody feels bad for us is what I’m saying and it’s kind of flattering and simultaneously depressing that we are the sad-sack team of the NFL.
Also, “That ain’t real wrastlen!”.
“Listen here brother, if Mangini doesn’t suit up and play Im gonna take him down to the Q for summer slam and put him through a table.”
– Hulk Hogan
Jay – No kidding. Though I’m a big fan of the Parma Tavern.
Clown – I agree. I do think it has a bit to do with the New York stay. Had Mangini come from Kansas City prior to Cleveland, no one would say a word. Things are just so magnified out east…
“That ain’t real wrastlen!”
You get out of here with your gay porn.
“He is doing absolutely horrific. He is horrible.”
You sure this wasn’t a quote from Joe Buck?
#1- I cannot add to that; it’s really the only lens you need to view this story through.
I saw Mizanin at Panini’s on West 6th St. about 3 years ago he was rocking the d-bag uniform of an Ed Hardy shirt and designer jeans (both 2+ sizes too small) and roughly $300 worth of five dollar bills hanging out the back pocket of said jeans. I’d never wanted to fight someone at a Cleveland bar so badly since I ran into N’Sync at The Attic (remember when the Flats were relevant?) and commented to my buddy, “Look at these clowns trying to look like N’Sync.”
I do not know the point of that story. It’s Friday and I just don’t like the Miz.
Parmageddon Sandwich FTW
@Scott @ Clown Baby – I don’t think it has anything to do with being from NY. We are just tired of this POOR excuse of a HIGH SCHOOL oops, PROFESSIONAL football team. Seriously this is the NFL!
@ “The Miz” it’s about time someone publicly points out our horrific offensive line. This has been a problem since the turn of the new error, oh I mean era. We had an amazing QB in town, Jeff Garcia, and he got destroyed thanks to our old pathetic offensive line.
@Larry Dolan, would you please sell the team already. Obviously it’s your fault the Indians SUCK! I mean it’s not 100% obvious that the Indians have sucked since you came. Granted they had a good season a few years ago, but your a CHEAP owner. I understand you have a masters degree in LAW??? Therefore, you really do not understand how a business works, but last time I checked you make money by selling tickets. With no fans in the stadium, you arent making money! COMMON SENSE! Also I would recommend talking to Dan Gilbert, it seems he might understand what you need to do to make money.
rbm4 – I like the part where you referred to Jeff Garcia as an amazing quarterback.
“Patience”
Just give Mankinis three years with three drafts/three free agent classes to prolong and extend what should be corrected now instead of pushing this franchise back another ten years. Mangini is now leading what’s perceived as the Alcatraz of the NFL, where Jet’s castoffs and special teamers with “smarts” come to roost. Go ahead, you know better-just give Mangini the time to put (more) of his people in place, and they he’ll win, right? Three years later, after devastating this franchise-will you then pull a Phil Savage mantra and turncoat?
“Patience”.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This is ALL Art Modell’s fault.
For the record, I’ve never known a WWE performer to exaggerate anything. Are you sure this quote is accurate?
@14,
I think you are supposed to put that last part in all caps or preferably just use the /sarcasm tag.
O Line > Wide Recievers
meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelt
thanks craig, for setting me up for what is sure to be 6 straight hours of me sitting at work, thinking about nothing but delicious grilled cheese sandwiches (meanwhile, the mrs. just emailed me “how’s some healthy salmon sound for dinner tonight?”)
What was Mangini’s record at NY again? JW
this vitriol against mangini is getting out of hand. the fact is, butch davis, phil savage, carmen policy all did terrible jobs of setting this team up. we cant expect mangini to come in and magically turn average to below average players into all stars. he also cant just sign every single worthwhile player out there or make ridiculous trades to bring in new talent. this isnt Madden football! it takes time to build a team up. we have gotten almost no production out of any draft picks the past 5-6 years. is mangini’s fault savage overpaid to get brady quinn? yes the qb situation blows, but who was mangini supposed to magically get? teams arent lining up to send over quality qb’s. and please dont anyone say “mark sanchez.” what has he shown so far? he is being put on a pedestal since hes a good looking usc qb and is in NYC, but has done absolutely nothing yet. that last performance he had with 5 INTs was god awful. im not trying to defend mangini, but just trying to be realistic. the unfortunate reality is its going to take 2-3 years to figure out if mangini is doing things well or not.
Ok, Now I’m going to Melt for lunch!
Scott – Do you go up there often? I’m usually there at least once a weekend. We should grab a beer. Hell, if anyone’s around the area, we should meet for a Browns game. And why is there no WFNY Browns Backers club? I think that should be looked in to.
OK off to Melt!
I agree Mike, and I don’t want to hear that any of the “top” coaches would’ve been able to turn it around this year. Lerner is a [WFNY Edit], and maybe Bernie can get some say in what goes on from now on. IMHO Bernie needs to be given the reigns and tell Mangini, you coach, I will handle everything else on the operations side. Kokinis can go sit in the puppet box and watch Bernie.
The problem is… you name Quinn starter, give him 2.5 games and pull him. Seriously? WTF. We all know **most** QB’s don’t just come into the league and win Super Bowls. We gave Anderson 3 years, yes THREE YEARS to do something. In 2007, Anderson threw 19 interceptions, 298 for 527 attempts??? seriously? We’ve given him too much time, he’s just another backup QB for a NFL team…
Now even better… let’s compare 2009 horrific season…
Brady Quinn – 2.5 games – 45 for 74 (400 yrs), 3 interceptions
Derek Anderson – 3.5 games – 48 for 108 (506), 6 interceptions
Brady Quinn could be doing worse…
Mark Sanchez – 6 games – 10 interceptions
Jake Delhomme – 5 games – 10 interception
Kerry Collins – 6 games – 8 interceptions
Let’s just give Quinn 6 games and see what he does. The season is already shot, yeah so we have to actually pay him, but we can then find out if it’s really a waste of a draft pick.
At least Mangini now knows what it’s like when people stop being nice, and start being real.
The Miz was a massive d-bag at Miami of Ohio, he was one of the bigger losers in Real World history, and he somehow topped all this by joining the WWE. Why is his comment getting any coverage?
Mangini is going to be around for a few years, he’s starting to get the players to buy-in and people need to give him some time to get his system in place. The team was an unsupervised joke under Crennel and he’s trying to clean house. I’m not a huge fan of him but I am blown away that a clown like the Miz is actually be covered on this website.
Also, the way Mangini is running things, he won’t set us back for years. It was Savage’s pay everyone whatever they want that set us back. Now we have people like Corey Williams getting money that they have no business having.
Bashing Mangini is so five minutes ago.
Well I was willing to give Mangini the benefit of the doubt regarding yet another crappy “rebuilding” season as long as he was able to pull off 4 victories. 2 against Pukesburgh, and 2 against the Ratbirds. But as we’ve seen so far 2 fails. Also, I really feel that…I can’t believe I am going to say this but…Isis kind of hit the nail on the head. If the benching of BQ is indeed business-based, then we are dealing with a group in the top ranks of this organization that truly are evil. Even more evil than Modell.
How about we do this? Class action law suit against the city of Baltimore, and the owners of the Ravens to force them to switch teams. Give us back our Browns, and they can start rebuilding…for the next 11 years.
“I want to smack Eric Mangini so hard he poops himself.” That is frickin’ awesome! I don’t care if it was wrastlin shtick or real frustration coming out from a real Browns fan. I too would also like to smack Mangini……so hard several poops come out!
