Browns News: Josh Cribbs Expects to Play

Despite an apparent concussion at the end of the game against Baltimore last week, head coach Eric Mangini expects Josh Cribbs to play against Detroit this weekend. Unlike most weeks, this might actually make a difference as Cleveland aims for their second win of the season in a battle of the two worst football franchises of the past decade.

Although the play should not have even occurred since the Browns took four timeouts in the second half, Cribbs left the field on a stretcher and was hospitalized. Dwan Edwards of the Ravens received a $5,000 fine for punishing Cribbs after a lateral on the game’s final play. Just a reminder, the Browns lost last week 16-0 and as far as my calculations, no single play in the game of football can achieve more than six points.

I’m surprised that Cribbs is going to play for us again after how we treated him last week. I know I wouldn’t.

  • JM

I’m shocked he is playing too.

  • Alex

The only way id play if i were him would be if i started at QB. Which, why the hell isnt he

  • Joseph

I truly hope we don’t Brian Westbrook part 2 and that should he play the entire game he is ok.

Why? what purpose does this serve?

If we beat the Lions, who cares? If we have to rely on special teams to beat the Lions, what does that prove?

Part of me would rather lose the rest for draft purposes. That’s how low we’ve gotten.

The purpose that this serves is to give Mangini (I say him, not the Browns) every chance of winning a second game this season. That said, this is extremely absurd. Kind of like the last play on Monday night.

“Part of me would rather lose the rest for draft purposes. That’s how low we’ve gotten.”

I would agree, except for the fact that this regime would do far less damage with a lower draft pick than they would at #1 or #2. (No, until it happens, I don’t buy that Mangini is going anywhere, unfortunately.)

I grew up in Cleveland, now live in Baltimore. I went to Browns games as a kid and watched Jimmy Brown, Bobby Mitchell, and Milt Plum. I went to games on a trolley from Shaker Heights. I love the Browns still. Our proud franchise is in disarray. Let’s get Holmgren in, dump madgenius and restore the Browns to the Champions they should be. And of course, give Josh a new contract immediately.
