Pavlik knocks out Espino in 5th round to retain WBC & WBO Middleweight Belts
December 20, 2009Browns Are Streaking After Record Setting Day!
December 20, 2009There has been a lot of Browns talk this week but most of it revolved around matters off the field such as the pursuit of Mike Holmgren and the contract situation of Joshua Cribbs. But the Browns return to the field today after a long week and some extended time off granted by Coach Mangini after last Thursday’s win. They are at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City against an equally lowly Chiefs squad under first year head coach Todd Haley. The Browns have not won back-to-back games in over a year when they beat the Bengals and Giants early last fall. Eric Mangini has to be worried about his job status with the potential of a new boss, err, czar coming in to try and clean things up. Perhaps another win against a fellow cellar dweller would help his cause. Join us this afternoon in the comments as we watch the Browns try and go for two in a row. Inactives are below…
Cleveland Inactives– DB Coye Francies, DB Ray Ventrone, LB David Veikune, G Billy Yates, TE Greg Estandia, WR Jake Allen, DE Robaire Smith
Kansas City Inactives – WR Lance Long, DE Glenn Dorsey, OT Ryan O’ Callaghan, G Brian Waters, WR Bobby Wade, TE Sean Ryan, LB Pierre Walters
WR Dwayne Bowe is active for the Chiefs after returning from an NFL imposed four game suspension after testing positive for performance-enhancing substances.

@ historycat – why in god’s name would he only want ONE shrimp cocktail at halftime? Otherwise I see no problems with your demand list.
@46 — Despite Cribbs’ performance, I still think the Browns really hold the cards in this deal. They’ve got him locked-up for, what, 3 more years? Cribbs wants a new deal NOW so he’s not going to be able to hold the Browns hostage or anything. It will be a compromise on both sides.
Regardless, Cribbs is going to be rolling in dough.
@52 — because the Browns are looking to improve next season and they won’t improve without him.
If he holds out next year no one would ever blame him and the organization would look like idiots on every sports show for the entire hold out.
@51 — cause he has to save room for the 4 fried chickens and a Coke after the game.
Wow, we thought our dropped passes were bad. KC is aweful!
@ #53 – Does that mean Brady Quinn eats dry white toast :/
I’m thinking of changing my stance on the whole rewriting of Cribbs’ contract. I was staunchly against it.
I want him in a Browns uni – no matter the cost. He’s vastly underpaid. It has nothing to do with him being the best athlete on a very poor team.
We need a new qb.
Wow…Jerome will have over 200 yards by the time the game is over. I thought our run D was bad. The Chef’s D is making Jerome look like Barry Sanders.
Also I pulled a “mangini” in my FFL by not starting my playmakers. I left Cribbs on the bench and we give points for Return Yards and TD’s. I started Roddy White instead. God I’m dumb.
Thank god the person who I’m playing against benched Harrison this week. He’s passed 40 fantasy points and would have destroyed my moving on in the playoffs.
Here’s why I still don’t want Mangini next year.
1. Most of these players have been on the roster since the beginning of the season but he stuck with the guys that sucked. St. Clair, etc. He is a poor evaluator of talent since our backups are playing better than the starters and only got a chance due to injury.
2. Mistakes by Mangini cost us games. Ravens, Lions, etc. we can look back and say, “What was he thinking” I expect better out of a 4th year head coach.
3. Vanilla offense, 1st down runs up the middle. Finally working against KC but have been worth only 2 yards against everyone else. We have seen we can do more on first down and be successful but we get conservative against teams that we will not beat. That’s when we should have taken a chance.
4. Pulling BQ after 2.5 games. Where would he be with more experience? we’ll never know.
Jerome Harrison about to surpass 250 yards…
I don’t care if its against the Chiefs, that is really impressive.
That bounced. But we’ll lose another challenge. Has he won any challenge this year?
@ history – looked like a catch to me. Though that ricochet type stuff only happens to snake bitten teams like the browns.
Two-minute drill, might have to throw the ball now…
We’re going for the field goal. Odds are this won’t work.
As in, you should try for the TD and settle for the FG.
Wildcat with Cribbs..make it happen!
Why did KC use their time out? Unless you expect to get the stop and get the ball back. But it’s 3rd and 1 with :52 left. That makes no sense.
JEROME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If we kick a FG, they need some time to score…
Smart play by harrison but I was waiting for a fumble.
oh wow
Wow, if only Harrison could’ve had 14 more yards… Imagine a player on the 2009 Cleveland Browns being the first running back to have 300 yards in a single game. What a game for Harrison!
He should have taken a knee…
Only Mangini would hate to get the Go ahead TD with :45 sec left
Speaking of paying people, Harrison probably just earned himself a fat new contract in the offseason with someone. I hope it’s us.
#PayTheMen ??
they need to go 80 yards in :45 second. . . .
ok 50 yards in 25 seconds. Our D isn’t THAT bad.
Thank God we don’t have Matt Cassel. He threw that straight up and hit the crossbar, I’ve never seen that before.
And i’m expecting them to cut back to the game cause we had pass interference on the last play.
Alright, who besides me was thinking that the Chiefs would score, go for two, and add a whole new wing onto the “
ShockingGroin-Busting Losses for the Browns Hall of Fame”?Be honest…
/fixed
Yeah, I was glad we didn’t get Pioli when he traded for Cassel and locked him up long-term.
Browns won! This will ALWAYS make me happy. If only Quinn hadn’t taken that one rush on the last drive, maybe Harrison would have the all-time single game rushing record. Oh well. In the end, Browns win and that makes a great day!!!
Robbie, that’s what was beautiful about that scramble call, though. No way the Chiefs were looking for that bootleg.
And now Celebrity skiing before the Cavs at 730.
DP, our shocking losses don’t make the Hall of Shame unless we’re contending.
Then they just go into the “You’ve got to be Kidding Me” Dwayne Rudd Exhibit Hall.
Finally Harrison gets a chance to be the starting RB and nearly breaks the all-time record of yards in a game. How much do you want to bet that he doesnt get 5 carries next week? I agree, with historycat about Mangini actually. I’ve been saying I won’t mind if he’s coaching, but I dont want to see misused talent anymore. And who says we need a RB for next year?
If anyone was wondering, Charlie Frye has already thrown an interception with only about 7 minutes into the first quarter. Good old times.
I just find it odd that our offensive and defensive units can’t both have a good game at the same time. I mean, I know they beat Pittsburgh and ran the ball well, but when we score 41 (well, 27 + 14 from Cribbs) we give up 34. When we give up 6, we only score 13.
It feels like they’re close to respectability. Not there yet, but close. They just need someone with a proven track record making all of those draft picks. I’m not 100% sure that’s Holmgren, but he’s probably better than Mangini.
Hall of Shame:
The Drive
The Shot
The Fumble
The Game 7
Red Right 88
The 2007 LCS Collapse
1954 World Series
That’s the hall of Shame.
Im ready to ship Mangini out. Anyone else notice his face after Harrison got the last TD? sure you can take a knee or w/e, but theres no guarantee that the FG will be good. Anything can happen in the NFL, so I think Harrison was right to take the points when he had a chance.
after 2 years of saying give jerome harrison more touches, and we finally do, look what happens. I cannot put into words the frusterations that mount in me after seeing a performance like this by jim. Coaching staff, have you finally realized what the casual fans already know as fact?–Jerome Harrison can play!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder how Harrison’s body will/would hold up to that many touches consistently, though.
Not sayin’, just sayin’.
DP- never know until you find out.
Not saying I don’t want to find out. Just curious because dude is tiny.
Also, if they start playing Cribbs as RB and give him about 10 carries or so, and they still have Davis who is worth looking at, I think we have enough talent to have Harrison be our top back with others to share.
Ya, I thought that about MJD, and passed on him in some fantasy drafts. If he’s smart and doesnt put his body out there to get lit up every play I think he can take 20-25 touches and be alright.
Browns game recap is up…
I’ve been saying the same thing as 1964 said above. I’ve been telling all of my friends that Harrison has all this potential, I’m just glad he proved me right.
