Buckeyes Roll Over Northwestern
January 20, 2010While We’re Waiting… Appreciating LeBron, Big Ten Ratings, and the Cult of Rex
January 21, 2010Manny Acta is inheriting a team that went 65-97 – a .401 winning percentage. The 2009 Cleveland Browns went 5-11 – a .312 winning percentage. Many anticipate the 2010 Indians do be considerably worse than the team that took the field a season ago. Some feel that the Browns should be able to improve off of their four-straight wins and take steps towards actually being a respectable football team on a consistent basis.
So, with that said – which coach experiences more success in 2010?

Just a reminder, fans: comin’ up is our Die-hard Night here at the stadium. Free admission to anyone who was actually alive the last time the Indians won a pennant.
Mangini. Simply stating Mangini’s winning percentage isn’t telling the whole story. There’s a big difference in a .312 (5-11) season where the wins are spread out through the year and a season where the last four games were wins. The later shows a trend towards improvement.
Besides, Acta will need a miracle to make something out of the Indians in their current state. The FO has obviously moved with the intention of long-term success and will probably expect to suck for 2-3 years.
I think Acta’s ends up higher. I realize that the Browns made progress at the end of the year and Homlgren coming to town is good news down the road. However, I see the Browns winning a max of 7 games. So, if they max out at 7, that’s a .4375 winning percentage. The Tribe would have to win 71 to beat my best possible finish for the Browns. I think they will.
This post got me thinking. The Cavs won more games (66) last season than the Tribe (65)? They played half as many games and still ended up with more wins – pretty amazing. Anyone know if this has ever happened before?
I was told there would be no math.
Have to go with Mangini, easily.
@ Lloyd braun – In 1991, the Tribe won as many games (57) as the 1991-92 Cavs.
FWIW, Vegas early lines have the Browns repeating a 5-11 season. The Tribe would have to go 50-112 to be worse than that mark.
Mangini. Not because he’s a better coach or anything, but Dolan is going to trade all of our talent by the deadline again.
Mangini, because the NFL has (had?) a salary cap.
when Mangini is fired at 2-4 (and Holmgrem takes over)that will only be a .333 – Acta will at least have the entire season.
Mangini for sure he will have a winning season in 010. Acta ehh… I think he will do better than expected but still Im not expecting anything great.
I’ll take Acta because I see 81 wins in what might be the worst division in a long time…they are going to score a lot of runs and give up even more…at least they will be fun to watch.
Just don’t see the Browns getting to 8 wins until the D gets a lot better and they have someone capable of pretending to be an NFL QB.
The tribe won’t be good, but I can’t see them losing 100 games. Can I see the browns losing 10. Oh yeah…
I think both teams might have a shot at .500.
The Tribe play in a crappy division and could surprise some people with the offense that is still in tact. If Hafner does like he did last year but more frequently, it might boost them even more. Sizemore and LaPorta should also be healthy.
The Browns will struggle, but I think if they bring in a good draft class and maybe even a new QB, it could push them closer to .500 as well.
tie
This is a bold predication but…… I bet Acta wins more games!
Mangini
