Browns Quietly Adding to Staff
February 13, 2010Polls: What should the Cavaliers do?
February 13, 2010The Washington Wizards have reportedly agreed to terms with the Dallas Mavericks to send Caron Butler, DeShawn Stevenson, and Brendan Haywood to the Mavs. The Wizards will receive Josh Howard, Drew Gooden, James Singleton, and Quinton Ross. The deal has been rumored in part since last night but has just been finalized. According to multiple sources via Twitter (WaPo beat writer Michael Lee, Yahoo’s Marc Spears), the deal has been reached and will be announced tonight (so much for no deals until Monday – though the paperwork won’t be signed until Monday).
The Wizards have made a pure salary dump with this move, saving $2.6 million this year and $15 million next year. Now the question remaining is what the Wizards plan to do with Antawn Jamison. They likely will try to move his contract in order to free up as much cap space as possible next season. Lee followed up later with a tweet that says the following:
For the 1st time in weeks, I finally got the impression that the Wizards ARE open to moving Antawn Jamison. Dealing might not be over.
No news has been brought up today regarding the rumored Cavs/Suns trade that would land Amar’e Stoudemire in Cleveland. Granted, All-Star Saturday likely starts much later for the NBA folks out in Dallas, with the partying, etc. going on there. Stay tuned for more info, as this develops.

why do i have a feeling that the cavs will end up with troy murphy??
Mike Jones: Jamison could be next. league sources say Grunfeld loves him, but knows Wiz needs fresh start, is still in talks with multiple teams
That is from hoopshype.com’s media twitters page. Take it for what it’s worth. Maybe they’d move Jamison for just Z now.
Washington has to trade Jamison now…right? Whats the point in keeping him?
Well basically if the Wiz were to keep either of the two, Butler would have fit that team better based on contract/age/position.
So yes, Jamison is probably on the block now. I’d say at this point Z/1st round should get it done but we’ll see.
i don’t see washington dealing with us. doubt they’ll buy out Z. just get the feeling they see us a rivals and wont want to help the cavs. it’d just be too much of a kick in the teeth for their fans.
@ kanick – I can assure you after going to the bar with Truth About It last night (I AM A TRAITOR!) that the whole situation is a kick in the teeth, and then the groin already. I don’t think they’ll care either way about a Z buyout.
At least this means the Celtics wont be getting Butler and Jamison…
1)Jason Kidd
2)Caron Butler
3)Shawn Marion
4)Dirk Nowitzki
5)Brendan Haywood.
6th man Jason Terry with Barea and Dampire coming off the bench. WoW. THATS BIG
The Mavs will beat the Lakers in a 7 game series. Im saying that right now.
@1 If there is a god we will not get Murphy! PLEASE NOT MURPHY!
I hope we get Amare Stoudemire. I hope I hope I hope.
@denny… kinda like shipping out cliff AND victor*. i get it. as you posted earlier… it’s *much* better to be buyers here. i am consciously appreciative of this.
that said… i’m now for going after antawn (providing we keep jj). he seems to ‘fit’ our team. amare smells like a vinsanity/sheed/randymoss type of pickup. talented, but the character of the team suffers. that’s my biggest concern with all this dealing.
i’ll stop here because tsunami’s posts on the other thread nailed my thoughts better than i could have done myself.
*and for added insult, i’m here in NH having to listen to sox fans debate whether victor should be catching in front of varitek… grr… pearls before swine.
Yea it’s a nice feeling being on the flip side of the coin. The NBA seems to be becoming more and more like MLB in terms of teams amassing talent and the rich getting richer. Wonder what changes will happen to the CBA in a few years.
We now have to beat a team that would include Duncan, Ginobilli, and Parker. Kobe, Pau, Artest, Odom, Bynum. Billups, Melo, Kenyon, JR Smith, and Nene. Or, Dirk, Kidd, Terry, Caron and Marion. to win the championship. Does Amare or Jamison give us the best shot. Not to mention the East teams we’d have to beat. I say Amare.
ok, one more thought.
i think we all feel as though we blew last year by standing pat in the name of chemistry. therefore, we’re all hell-bent to do a deal to put us over the top. maybe we’re overreacting to last year’s screwup, and we actually _do_ have a championship team now. so maybe the deal we do should lock down the future beyond this year? especially if we if a rare talent is up for grabs?
well it seems al jefferson is out there. (pacers passed on giving up granger for him?!) check the link below and check the poll. wolves fans think he’s going to be moved. given that we are center-less maybe as early as next season… well i say let’s get greedy and build a dynasty. al jeff isn’t the stretch 4 we’re looking for, but he has the potential to be a top 3 center for the next decade.
it’d be interesting to poll this forum and say pick one: jamison, stoudemire, jefferson, no-move, or other.

@ kanick – a few things.
1) I like Chemistry.
2) Bleacher Report! Gahhhh!
3) I can make a poll, I think. Not sure with the new layout.
Why not just add another All-Star weekend event; Cavs shootaround.
Higher %’s, more handshakes, less hand sanitizer.
@christiang – hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things.
I would be happy to get Jamison for Z and a pick, I just liked Amare more because if Z doesn’t get bought out Amare can play center as well as PF.
That is why we get back to hoping Z gets bought out for that size against the bigger teams….
Its always something.
Having Jamison for Z or Wally’s contracts enables us to keep JJ and growing him through the playoffs….and making him the PF of our future…which has been my point all along.
I still think our SG play is in need for an improvement over the PF play.
Best teams in the west
1)Mavs
2)Lakers
3)Nuggets
Iggy puts this team over the top. period.
… and for the next few years (especially if packaged with dalembert.)
Killer trade the Mavs pulled off. Lakers should be worried now since they are a finesse team and Haywood and Butler can get physical. I heard on the radio today the Wizards may not even want to deal with us as a way to stick it to us in whatever rivalry they think we still have. I was on the fence about trades but after this one the Cavs may have to make one.
I think the mavs should make one more trade and go after Camby.
Why include gOoden and singleton?Ithink it should have been damp and carroll.
Chris Broussard reporting at 2:57AM that a deal for Amare is close.

Also mentions Corey Maggette straight up for Z. I have to admit I laughed outloud when i read that. Maggette? WTF? It’d be nice to get a 2 guard but a score first player that wont even throw up 3’s wouldnt be good in this system. People whine about Parker but he knocks down shots and knows how to get open.
I think giving up Z and JJ is a lot just for Amare, but if Z comeback after a buyout and we resign Amare to a deal then its not so bad.
I have to admit, I love having an owner with deep pockets like Dan Gilbert. I wish I could say the same about the Tribe.
It would be a bit sad that Z would leave, I liked thinking of him as a lifer Cav.
Nice move by Dallas for sure.
@26 Simon I’m with you Cleveland hasn’t seen an owner like Dan Gilbert in probably forever which is another reason why if Ferry stands still for a second year I’ll scream. Gilbert has shown and stated he wants a championship and is willing to actually spend to get one. It appears Ferry is going to do something with an eye on the present and the future so for me you can’t ask much more. I just hope it’s not just talk.
I have to give The Lerner’s some slack on the ownership comment. They have shown they’ll spend too it’s just that their decision making has been as bad as it could be and as a result it’s cost them on and off the field. Hopefully that trend ended with the hiring of H&H (Holmgren and Heckert) but the proof as they say will be in the puddin’!
