NBA Preview: Cavs at Bulls – (During NCAA Tourney)

Will anyone be watching the Cavs tonight with the tourney in high gear?  The Cavs game starts tonight at 8:00 PM? Who knows?  I will be watching the Cavs until the Buckeyes come on at 9:35 when they gear up to face Jim Rome’s Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara.  Anyway, the Cavs game has the potential to be a real laugher tonight.  The Bulls never fired Scott Baio Vinny Del Negro around the holidays when those rumors were hot and heavy.  Around that time, the Bulls were hovering just under the 0.500 mark.  Now, the Bulls find themselves back under that mark with a record of 31-35.  But that includes this recent streak of 9 losses in a row including injuries to Derrick Rose, Luol Deng and Joakim Noah.  The Bulls will be without all three tonight against the Cavs.

In Chicago’s last game, the starters were Taj Gibson, James Johnson, Brad Miller, Kirk Hinrich and Jannero Pargo, with Hakim Warrick, Flip Murray, Acie Law and Chris Richard logging minutes off the bench.  It might not seem like much, but they managed to put up 106 points in Dallas in losing to the Mavericks.

The Cavs are carrying a five game winning streak into tonight’s game including winning 11 out of their last 12 since going on that three game losing streak.  The Cavs have seemingly adjusted every single time there was anything that they needed to address.  They will certainly have to step up their efforts in defensive rebounding and free throws sometime soon.  The Cavs gave up 6 offensive rebounds to Indiana in the prior game, and 10 to the Pistons before that.  Meanwhile, the Cavs shot 70% from the free throw line, which was an improvement over the 66.7% against Detroit.  The Cavs are winning games, but they are leaving points on the floor and allowing teams more hope in the fourth quarter than I prefer.

Hopefully the Cavaliers won’t look at the injury report and overlook this Bulls team tonight.

I’ll be watching the whole game. Go Buckeyes as well!

  • Vare-A-Jay

What? No Game preview with probable starters, stats, and the whole 9? How am I supposed to sound smart at the bar tonight?!?

“How am I supposed to sound smart at the bar tonight?!?”

Talk about kinetic isotope effects, and their impact on methyl transferases in the body. That or just tell people you read an internet website that I write for. One will impress people at the bar significantly more than the other.

  • Kensha

I’ll be watching from the Madhouse on Madison!

  • Stin4u

I’ll be watching both games naturally go cavs!

  • Lyon

DVR’ing the Cavs. Watch them after the games are over. Thank God tomorrow is Saturday and staying up til 3 isn’t that bad.

WooooooooooooooooooooW!!! Did this joke of an announcer Austin Carr just say that the Cavs and the Bulls are rivals? Are you kidding me? What a joke. Austin (should be hit by a) Carr should have been fired but this takes the cake. He has to go after this season or i might not watch a single game next year. Thats even if Lebron comes back.

  • jcm

The Bulls’ play by play guy sounds like Joe Tait.

  • akron.slinger

did anyone see noah on the bench? what is he wearing? haha he looks like a scrub.

LBJ 15,000pts. The youngest to 15,000 in NBA history.

@Denny…you’re fancily talking about catalysts. I get ya. As in something like: “Anderson Varejao is an enzymatic catalyst for this team”. I’m going right now, and I’ll use that.

  • Eli

Lebron with a serious off night. Thank goodness we’re playing a team without any of their real starters.

  • AMC

@ Eli – don’t know what time you made that comment, but LeBron – once again – took over the game down the stretch. As usual, the Cavs clamped down on defense down the stretch but this was one of the most woeful offensive efforts we’ve seen in a while. The Cavs refused to move the ball and pretty much everyone but Mo (early on), DWest and LBJ looked like garbage or were completely ignored. Jamison only got 4 shots the entire game.

A win is a win, but I hope the Cavs aren’t developing bad habits here…

  • Phil M

I don’t how “serious” an off night LeBron had. The five turnovers were not typical, but he tallied 29 pts., 11 RB, 7 assists and, most importantly, shut down the Chicago Bulls’ yapping by taking over the game in the final period. This was another comeuppance for the Bulls, at least for those who remember what it was like to see the Cavs manhandled by that team for years on end. I know some people seethe with rage unless the Cavs blow out lesser teams, but the end of that game was seriously fun to watch.

  • Phil M

And the Cavs’ magic number tally is now 7 (Magic) and 9 (Lakers), with the Lakers playing later tonight.

    Goodnight Cleveland:)

    55-15

  • Eli

I commented when the game was tied and Lebron had about 14 points on something around 4-14 shooting in the 3rd quarter. I am aware that he did well in the 4th, but up to that point he had had a crap game.

  • Phil M

Bring on the Pistons! The Cavs are going to have to whittle away their magic numbers mostly on their own.

  • Jeff

@ jcm I thought the same thing at certain points of the game. “Hey this guy’s not bad…oh wait that’s because he sounds like Joe Tait.”
