While We’re Waiting… Glen Davis is a Bold-Faced Liar (and more!)

While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com

Glen Davis Questionable

Glen Davis: Goon and a liar: “Admit it, guys: This does not look good for Glen Davis. [...] But after a bunch of viewings, this appears to be pretty decent evidence that Glen Davis a) tugged on Shaq’s thumb after he knew it was banged up; and b) fibbed about in the Herald or honestly misremembered the chronology of the game when talking to the Herald reporter who did the story.” [Celtics Hub]

Six weeks later, still the Big 11: “Ever since expansion became a “front burner” issue, rumors have swept across the college football landscape like wildfire. From the mundane (Pittsburgh to Big Ten), to the spectacular (Texas to Big Ten), to the outrageous (Brazil to Big Ten), ethics in journalism have been cast aside in a race to make much adieu about nothing…or something.

Barry Alvarez’s comments last week that the Big Ten hired a third-party to conduct its search, and the conference had received an initial report with 15 names on the list, fueled a parade of speculation that has reached fever pitch. Jim Delaney’s follow up that a recommendation might be made to the Council of Presidents/Chancellors by summer, keeps an answer so close, yet so far away.” [Law Buckeye/Rivalry Esq]

Varying business models: “Cleveland is playing like a team that has finally surrounded its megastar with a perfect complement of players to contend in the face of any adversity . . . and to win against almost every single one of them.  New York is playing like a bunch of local dudes who are really hoping to have a shot at winning a YMCA round-robin tournament.  Or, like an NBA team that’s been punting seasons since LeBron was in high school.” [The Wine and Goldrush]

“Michael Vick is a name that occasionally gets associated with teams in “quarterback flux”, and his name has been bandied about with the Browns a few times over the past year. This is usually an excuse for some sort of weak “dawg” joke, but I may have just read too many Twitter posts.

Vick doesn’t seem like a likely Brown because of, well, brown. Turns out that he would like to play for the Carolina Panthers for several reasons, among them “I like the uniforms”. [Barry McBride/The OBR]

And finally… “James declined to talk about the offseason — “I stopped answering free agent questions a long time ago” — but in the past he’s said winning means more to him than money.

If that’s true, New York should be a faraway place in his mind. Because the Knicks have not had a winning season since 2000-01 — though adding James obviously increases their chances.

Same with the Cavs’ next opponent, New Jersey, another rumored and possible LeBron stop. Except the Nets are worse than the Knicks.” [Pat McManamon/NBA FanHouse]

    Wow… that’s a creepy picture of Glen Davis.

  • http://www.NoLogoNeeded.com Don_NoLogoNeeded.com

    @CLESportsFan

    It is. For whatever reason, I picture Kramer behind the camera egging him on like he did with George’s pic, “The Art of Seduction.”

    KRAMER: Glen, take your shirt off…

  • Lyon

    @2… lol

  • Mark

    @2 – I was thinking the same thing. Big Baby looks just like the guy at the camera shop developing Costanzas pictures.

  • Jack

    Great ref, guys.

    If only the NBA refs were that good.

    Is the league looking into this at all?

    A more important question, since I didn’t see the replays, is does anyone seem to think that Shaq’s injury would’ve been much less severe had Big Baby not taken a swipe at it?

    The Herald is even calling Big Baby a liar now:

    My upload is internet b-list famous!

    I wonder if Shaq will give me some tickets next time he’s in Denver. :)

    A million props to Barry for the ‘weak Dawg joke’ line.

  • Harv 21

    Wonder who gets nominated to set things right with Baby when we next play the Celts. My vote is for Darnell Jackson to see some unusually early p.t. that game. Hate to get Andy suspended.

    When did Pat McManamon starting writing for FanHouse?

  • historycat

    I have a question for those whose google-fu is stronger than mine.

    When Jordan’s contracts with the Bulls came up, how did he handle it? Can we get a historical perspective? Was is always known he wouldn’t sign with anyone else, even after the first contact when they hadn’t won anything?

  • http://shakesthesnowglobe.blogspot.com EZ

    @10

    It’s hard to compare because the CBA was different, and before Shaq leaving Orlando for the Lakers it was unheard of for a player to leave money on the table to play for another team.

    “When did Pat McManamon starting writing for FanHouse?”

    A few weeks ago. He wrote about it at the ABJ – we talked about it a bit on Twitter.

  • Vare-A-Jay

    historycat – the only thing I’ve found on that subject 9something I looked in to a while back thanks to the LBJ FA rumors) is Jordan was never really in the media in regards to playing anywhere other than Chicago. In the summer of ’96, an srticle was written about Jordan becoming the highest paid NBA player, resigning with Chicago for one year 25-30 million. At the time Jordan had just won the 95-96 MVP and led the Bulls to their 4th title. He said at the time he wanted to “weigh his options” after the 96-97 season. (Partly because Phil jackson had only 1 year left on his contract.) Obviously we all know he stuck around and won 2 more titles in 96-97 & 97-98 for a repeat three-peat.

  • Jason

    I can see it now. The Cavs sign Mark Blount to a 10 day contract prior to the March 14 game in Cleveland

    MB – “Hey Big Baby… pull my finger!”

    then WHAM!!!!

    MB gets called for a flagrant 2, gets ejected and leaves to a standing ovation from the fans at the Q!

  • http://www.msblsim.com boogeyman

    @14 LoL Pull my finger – but the Cavaliers don’t play like that although I must admit it would be nice to see. I wonder if Charles Oakley still wants an NBA contract I’m sure the ex-John Hay grad wouldn’t mind being an assasin for a game.

    Anyways I read that Celtics blog and man, much ado about nothing if you ask me. What I did learn is there are clearly to many people with entirely to much time on their hands who fancy themselves sports professional commentators. Heres hoping the jobless rate falls so those people can actually get back to doing real work!

  • historycat

    Thanks for the responses.

    I know the CBA was different, but I was wondering if there were all these questions about would he resign? Should he go to NYC or LA, etc.

    With Blogging and the Eastern Seaboard Pandering Network having grown in importance, I feel like we are getting trashed and questioned alot more than in the past. It would be interesting to see though if Jordan said early, that ya I’m signing a new deal, but it’s just going to be one year. Or did he wait to make any statements like Lebron, was there the constant opinion of “you can’t make as much in endorsements if you’re not on a coast” like there is today.

    I’m just so tired of hearing Cleveland get trashed. I was watching something on the World* Wide Leader, and they were debating if Jamison was enough to get Lebron to stay. These idiots were saying, well it’s only one guy. Before it was the Cavs have no one else, now it’s “Well, the only have one”.

    Listen, we have enough problems with field goals in this town without you moving your goalposts. We have a great team, so pull your heads out of your [historycat edit so I don't get the ban hammer].

  • MattyFos

    I’d be willing to sign a 10 day contract. Big Baby goes up for a rebound over me and I’ll just chop block him. Done. We get our revenge and I get some fat cash.

  • Jason

    @15 – For the record… I do NOT want the Cavs to become violent… cause we’re better than that.

    …but it was a fun thought, especially since Mark Blount is big, cheap, and available :)

  • Jason

    @15 – For the record… I do NOT want the Cavs to become violent… cause we’re better than that.

    …but it was a fun thought, especially since Mark Blount is big, cheap, and a former Celtic!

  • Jason

    don’t know what happened there…sorry all

  • MrCleaveland

    I believe the correct phrase is “bAld-faced liar.”

    /Don’t give me that look!

  • http://www.waitingfornextyear.com Scott

    Mr. C – I actually researched bald v bold prior to publishing. Both are acceptable, though “bald” was the original term.

  • MrCleaveland

    @22

    Drat! Foiled again!

    Very well, Scott, you’ve won this time. But there will be other nits to pick.

    /Smithers, fetch my Strunk and White

    Is Glen Davis posing for the cover of “Men’s Alternative” magazine?
