While We’re Waiting… Sowers’ Options, Ohio State Hoops and More on Tebow

While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com

Jeremy Sowers, likely headed for the DL as he gets stretched back out following shoulder soreness, made his spring debut against the Reds today, allowing a pair of runs on three hits with no walks and no strikeouts in two innings. Jonny Gomes took him deep in the second. “In terms of health, I felt fine,” Sowers said. “In terms of effectiveness, I had highs and lows. But you don’t expect to come out with guns a blazin’ and painting the knees the first time out in Spring Training.”  Sowers is out of Minor League options and knows he could be nearing the end of his tenure with the Tribe. The Indians will stretch him out as a starting alternative, but who knows if they’ll have a need for him in the rotation early in the year? What is Sowers expecting? “I just want to be healthy,” he said. “Whatever else happens is out of my control. If my place isn’t here but with somebody else, it’s fine. I’ve been treated very well by this organization. It’s a first-rate organization. They’ll do whatever is best for the team.” [CastroTurf]

Previewing today’s OSU/UCSB game: “I’m sure the match up zone will cause the Bucks to get off to a slow start (unless they take it inside early and often), but they have too many good ball handlers and shooters to be outdone by a zone D from the Big West Conference. This style of defense is why Diebler’s health is so critical. With Lighty and Turner a given to drive the lane, Diebler can stretch that defense will a couple of deep makes and open up the lanes even more as the game rolls along. You know he has been given top notch treatment and if he can hold his food down tomorrow, he’ll be fine.” [Eleven Warriors]

Oh, and if you haven’t heard, I’m up for a blogger award of sorts via FoxSportsOhio.  My latest submission is regarding the Tim Tebow conundrum.  Please take a second and go over there, “recommend” it (top left corner of post) and throw me a vote or two.  Less than one week left, guys.  Many thanks.

No to Tebow. Can’t trust a guy whose name alliterates. Right, Scott?

  • bobby

    WHAT ABOUT OU!?

  • stin4u

Nice piece on Tebow Scott. I’ve been against drafting Tebow from the start but your right, Holmgren has had such a good track record with QB’s I’d have to assume he’s the right guy. With that said though….

    WHAT ABOUT GREG PAULUS….SHEEESH

  • bobby

Not a fan of Tebow with our 2nd round pick. We saw how second round projects work. If there werent so many ?s then maybe. But with the 6th pick in the second round we need a starter… preferably on D.

  • Tylor

    No love for the Bobcats?!!?!

Makes me sad to see one of Stereophonics’ worst songs on that list, but it is a catch happy song, I suppose.

    #SayNoToTebow

  • MacNip

OU is basically in West Virginia. They have no relevance to Cleveland

  • Matt#2

    MacNip,
it’s not OU that is relevant to Cleveland, but Georgetown – their mascot is a DAWG, after all. Now, the Brownies are the top DAWGS.
    *woof*

  • bobby

    Get out of here MacNip.

That picture is creepy of Sowers. I honestly wouldn’t recognize him in an airport, so well done!

“Can’t trust a guy whose name alliterates.”

    Well played, sir.

  • MacNip

Look, I went to UD, was I complaining that they weren’t on the while we’re waiting when they beat WV last year? :)

That game was great to see though. Anytime the Big East loses is great to see

  • Tylor

    @ MacNip
Just that there are thousands of Cleveland people that attend or are alumni of the university.

  • MacNip

@ Tylor – same with the University of Dayton

  • MattyFos

UPSET ALERT- Arkansas Pine Bluff could take down duke today.

Duke is a streaky team that relies on jump shots. And APB played a tough non conference schedule (which they started 0-11) but they are experienced playing against big opponents.

    GO LEHIGH and CJ MCCOLLUM

  • bobby

I was mainly joking. Didnt really expect OU to but since it is an ohio team that has a ton of cleveland alum/ties it could have. When they meet OSU in the sweet 16 tho…

  • MattyFos

How about the Federal League getting all of these players in the NCAA tournament. Raymar Morgan (McKinley) at Michigan State.. Kenny Freese (Perry) at Xavier…. CJ Mccollum (Glen Oak) at LeHigh… you’ve gotta be proud of Canton!!!

  • MattyFos

You also had Kosta Koufus from Glen Oak a few years back

  • Ron from Akron

    Isn’t Canton, basicly, West Virginia?
